Obama just built fifteen feet from the beach on Martha's Vineyard. Oprah's trying to get the rightful owners who got burned out on Maui kicked out so she can do the same.

I remember many years ago watching a documentary regarding New Orleans and how it was built below sea level and was a disaster waiting to happen.

My feeling is that any person that builds next to a stream, river, lake, ocean, forest, should do so at their own risk. Sooner or later that once in 100 year disaster will happen. I don't think sympathy or tax payer dollars should be used for disaster relief. No difference choosing to live in the tornado belt. If a homeowner procures property insurance then let that be the sole recourse of any damages. If no entity is willing to underwrite homeowners insurance then the owner should pay cash and build at their own risk.
