The party platform is red meat for the grassroots, to let people think they have influence - but as it binds nobody, nobody pays attention to it. True on state/local levels as well.
I am tempted to write RAND PAUL 2016 across it and send it back but they have registration codes on the envelope and survey.

I haven't received one yet but if I did I would def fill out and return. This is not the time to be complacent. Holy hell, we have Rand leading in the polls. We have the majority of Repubs on our side! We have to keep pushing even if it is just a fundraising letter. Not the time to say "its useless". Fill the damn thing out. Engage...ENGAGE.

I agree with PatriotOne, fill out the survey and send it back in.
No, I can tell you first hand that in 2011 several of the measure that got passed in the NCGA got passed despite leadership objections because the Member was able to argue that said issue was in the platform. If you have allies in the Legislature or the Congress, then having a friendly platform can give them all kinds of leverage.
I just filled it out, they asked some pretty stupid questions.

I guess I probably did. I don't know. Anything like that I throw away without opening. It's just a fund raising gimmick.

See, I don't agree that they pay no attention to it. i think they pay attention to it so they know which way the wind is blowing in order to feed talking points to the establishment candidates.

And I am telling you that I have personally seen the inside of those super-secret legislative caucus meetings where platform planks were used as leverage to force leadership to accept the movement of bills that they personally opposed and would have otherwise shut down. Platforms are more important than most folks realize. So long as you have a couple friendly legislators in office, you can use platform planks to push and pass bills that would otherwise go nowhere.
I agree with those that say it would be good to fill it out. If they're paying for its return, why not?

That various by state. In at least 1 state (my guess would be more than 1), there is a group that influences how elected official vote that uses the party platform in the process. The website is perhaps laughable, though. http://www.nhhra.org/
