Nothing -- and I do mean nothing -- was said about it at the time. It just happened, like that's the way it had always been, and truth be known a great many people didn't even notice. I thought that was weird. But it made sense to me why they did it. The way it was the IOC had to either quadruple their staff every other year and lay them all off again after the games, or pay a staff twice as big as it needed to be all the time even though few of them had anything to do for two years but twiddle their thumbs. It was probably also good for viewership because people didn't get all Olympicked out before the winter opening ceremonies even began. It was a massive feast followed by three years of famine. They should have set it up this way when they first started doing winter sports.

So, if someone does something for a reason you don't understand, that's never "crazy like a fox", that's always invalid just because you don't get it. A centrist position, taken by pretty much everyone who is the center of his own little universe.

To be honest, this is one of the things that has always driven me nuts about the libertarian movement. No one I saw anyway was talking about this stuff. But, Rothbard knew about it and Ron Paul sure did.

I agree on federal cops. Local, even with their warts, are much preferable to federal. Locally, we have *some* control. ICE already exists and I am not against them starting to do their damn job. However, they are doing more than you mention on trying to restrict the handling of illegal immigration to the fed. They have blocked the states from enforcing the border for many years.

So he'll seem to be making a logical case for federal cops nationwide on the pretext that they'll automatically expel them. Whether they will or not is another question. But... ... federal cops are a bad idea. Let the feds take over everything and you'll have to convince eighty million voters that the brown water coming out of your tap is more important than abortions and closed churches and various wars combined.
