Exclamation Propaganda Alert: without National ID card, you may be banned from boarding airplanes in 2016

There is a serious push for a national ID card right now. It is an issue that I think more folks should pay attention to. I know it's hard with all the mud they are slinging right now, but read this propaganda piece to get Massachusetts residents to buy into a national ID card.

Susan Podziba couldnít enter a federal building near Washington this month because her driverís license revealed an unacceptable home state: Massachusetts.

Bay State residents can no longer use their driverís licenses to get inside some government agencies because the state is one of nine that have not signed on to a federal law called REAL ID. If nothing changes, they will even lose the ability to display their licenses to board a plane.

The REAL ID measure presses states to verify citizenship and update security standards when they issue licenses. Congress intended the act to prevent terrorists who arrive in the country illegally from boarding planes. But officials in Massachusetts and elsewhere have balked at a program they claim costs millions, raises privacy concerns, and infringes on stateís rights.

States face no direct penalty other than the frustration of their citizens.

Some restrictions ó such as the one that kept Podziba, a public policy mediator from Brookline, out of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ó began in late July.

    ---

Unless the state decides to participate, Massachusetts residents without other identification will find themselves banned from White House tours next year and commercial airplanes as soon as 2016.

    It's all PROPAGANDA bull$#@!...

Just try getting a drivers license today in ANY state... you need a real birth certificate(not Barry Soetoro issued toilet paper), passport, Social Security card, gov DD-214, etc, etc, etc ... it was all imposed with BS legislation post 9/11 excuse.

This can be called; not "State Tracking Device ID" but National "Tracking Your Ass Everywhere ID"

well, some remember, way way back, where Social Security numbers were used only so you could collect a fractional refund from the money stolen from you during decades of work snatched by the Uncle PONZI leash... now your SS ID is controlled by Uncle Orwell.

AWESOME! - so not getting one of these things will prevent me from getting sexually molested!

Not that I fly anyway, primarily for that very reason.

    Great economic warfare policy fuds.

umm, what are the other states that are holdouts. I know there are people that maintain residences in multiple states but only one is there main one. Like could I rent someones closet and... I think I'd take tax hit doing this, but it would probably be worth it...

like my dad told me: avoid getting a SS number as long as possible.

The Feds are already hooked into the state driver license databases, all this would do is make identification slightly more efficient. There's no reason to hate government efficiency, unless of course, you just hate government, or think that this efficiency will someday turned against you violently, which is of course just silly.
It's all about taking action and not being lazy. So you do the work, whether it's fitness or whatever. It's about getting up, motivating yourself and just doing it.

    You forgot the /sarc

and don't forget the RFID chip and the biometrics on the card.

That's the kind of crap that would make me want to "forget" my ID at home like I often do with my cell phone if it's not RF shielded.

You wouldn't be confusing us with someone else, would you? Considering you've seen most people here say, over and over, 'Stop giving them Fed money and we won't have to worry about them at all,' and you've seen most of the rest say, 'Open borders NOW!'

Number one, where do you see, on this forum or anywhere else genuine libertarians congregate, voter ID taking precedence over peace, prosperity, liberty, justice, or even freedom from Monsanto in attention or importance? Number two, what kind of mental aberration does it take to convince someone that a nationwide program and biometrics are necessary to ensure that the grand Democratic tradition of dead men voting is brought to a halt? We could do that with 1968 licenses with fingerprints in place of photos...

Are you ever going to figure out that your cause would best be served by quitting while you're behind? 'Cause the only way the powers that be and lovers of the status quo will ever get their money's worth out of your arguments is if you pay them for the honor of making them look bad.

You are all about murdering straw. Do you take issue with livestock? Those here that are against illegal immigration are against it because they see that it empowers the welfare state, they are not against the immigration itself. The Real ID isn't about catching illegal immigrants, clearly that isn't a priority or so many wouldn't be getting let go (which I am okay with, despite the welfare state). Marxists? True "Marxists" are few and far between, you and your kind fit more facets of the fascist mold-- IE Advocating for state control over the means of production-- which would still be exploitation of individual human creativity according to the Marxist perspective. I am not a unicorn and you are not a Marxist. Don't insult the man with pretensions to his philosophy.

Illegal Immigration, from the Govts perspective, is not about keeping non citizens out, its about keeping citizens in.

National ID id what enables this, and it will come in the form of other existing identification, such as State Drivers License. Why is your SSN on there already? Because it is a National ID and has been for years, complete with RFID and Biometric Bull$#@!. I dont know how many people remember the REAL ID Act that was tacked on to some other bill (I dont recall which one at the moment), but no one debated, it was just attached to something else.

As far as flying, I have zero desire to fly, and pay $#@!s to grope me, spread my buttocks, and feel like I am constantly forced to prove that I am not a terrorist at EVERY turn. Why would I throw money at companies that profit from this $#@!?

    But but...it's for the children!

    It's to keep us safe!!

Closing the border? $#@! that. Once the border is closed, guess what you are doing to yourselves:

On the promise of keeping illegal immigrants out....guess who will be kept in? But boobus won't even notice because it will be called a Freedom Fence and painted red white and blue and the masses will cheer.

No one will mind the border patrol agents setting up checkpoints all over the country and asking for your National ID card at every turn until it's too late...or maybe not at all. Because it keeps us safe...

If you lump people into a group you will find disagreements among them. It's not valid to call it hypocrisy. It's not a 'we' or a 'they' it's individuals with varying beliefs. Pointing out hypocrisy is fine, but it exists within an individual, not a group.

Are you implying that the RealID is fulfillment of prophecy?

Seems to me that authoritarians are likely to implement systems of control involving identification. Seems near axiomatic, but nothing superstitious about it.

I suspect the media will be pushing for it over the next few years so that the average Joe will eventually think it is a good idea to have nationwide. The Neocon pundits will sell it as a solution to protect us from ISIS-terrorists coming across the Mexican border and as a voter ID. The left will want it as a document that allows illegals to get drivers licenses, welfare and healthcare benefits.

The REAL ID Act, as it would be called, imposed a national standard by forcing the states to adopt uniform standards for their identification cards – or did it?

Maine responded by passing a resolution in 2007 that refused any type of REAL ID adoption in the state. Surely, Maine’s legislature was warned by opponents who dreaded the thought of opposing the federal juggernaut. Leading the charge, Maine showed that one state can stand up against the iron will of the federal state.

When Maine stood up, Utah took notice. Utah passed a similar bill a month later. The Utah law noted that REAL ID is “in opposition to the Jeffersonian principles of individual liberty, free markets, and limited government.” Since that time, 22 states passed similar bills and resolutions, creating additional opposition toward the national standard. Similar resolutions are pending in over a dozen additional states.

As a result, the REAL ID Act has been effectively neutered in much of the country. The federal government has not elected to devote its resources to enforce the mandate, sue the participating states, or send in the tanks as a result.
So if its neutered, why do people in MA even care? Are the talking heads typing their stories from Martha's Vineyard just so in love with Uncle Sugar?
