308 Tennessee police officers call in sick in apparent protest

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/07/07...cmp=latestnews

Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong says 308 officers have called in sick in the last week and in what appears to be a deliberate work action.

The Commercial Appeal reports the number announced on Sunday was a big increase from the 181 officers who had called in sick by Saturday.

Because of the number of officers out, the Shelby County Sheriff's Department is helping to patrol the city.

Armstrong said the actions come in an apparent protest to a City Council vote that will reduce health care subsidies for city employees. The funds will be redirected to the city's troubled pension fund.

Mayor AC Wharton said the city was forced to take action, citing a recent state law mandating that cities fully fund their pension plans within five years.

At which point will Americans realize that creating an unaccountable institution that is able to pass its liability on to tax-payers is immoral and attracts sociopaths?

Until we the people insist otherwise, they are public masters.

If someone wanted to be elected governor in Tennessee, this is all it would take. Run on re-routing the Mississippi around Memphis making it de facto Arkansas. No bridges. Tennessee's crime rate would plummet.

Memphis is a $#@! hole. I don't know who is worse there, the Vice Lords or the politicians. Both love to rob people, and kill anyone who dares question them.

Memphis is the most corrupt city in Tennessee. If we cut them loose to Mississippi, we should also build a wall to keep it from spreading.

Stupid move considering their pension is part of the pension program the state is trying to save. If I had to choose between a not so well funded healthcare now vs a well funded pension later. I think i'll pick, wait a minute, the govt is promising them something in the future. $#@! that, gimme the healthcare benefits now and i'll take my chances with future benefits.

It still makes them look bad to be whinning like babies when the state is in financial trouble

Who gives a crap about health benefits .Are these not young , healthy people ?
