Thumbs up Rand Paul confirms he will speak at Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2013

    POLITICO’s Morning Score scoops:

Rand Paul has confirmed that he will speak at CPAC. The Kentucky senator, seen as a likely 2016 Republican candidate for president, has just returned from a trip to Israel. His father, Ron, won the CPAC presidential straw poll in 2010 and 2011. The annual conservative confab takes place in mid-March at National Harbor this year.

The Kentucky senator's speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference follows on the heels of his first trip to Israel – two requisites for any GOP White House hopeful.

"We have nothing to fear except our own unwillingness to defend what is naturally ours, our God-given rights. We have nothing to fear that should cause us to forget or relinquish our rights as free men and women. To thrive, we must believe in ourselves again, and we must never, never trade our liberty for any fleeting promise of security." - Rand Paul

CPAC 2013 releases 2nd round of speakers list: Netanyahu, Harper, Rand, Lee, Flake

Here is the 2nd round list:
    Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper
    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
    U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH)
Former U.S. Representative Artur Davis (D-AL)
    U.S. Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ)
Former Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuno
Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich
    South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley
    U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK)
    U.S. Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA)
    Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal
    U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT)
Saratoga Springs, UT, Mayor Mia Love
    U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY)
    U.S. Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA)
    Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker

Here's a recap of the first list:
    Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush
    U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX)
    U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC)
    New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez
Former U.S. Representative Ron Paul (R-TX)
    U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)
    U.S. Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI)

Speakers of interest to the liberty movement are in bold.

The speaker list for this year is looking really good. Definitely worth going if you have the opportunity to, if not then you can watch the ACU livestream.

Great news! Now we can ratchet up plans for Rand winning the straw poll. Send a message early that the grassroots wants Rand instead of Rubio.

No sign of Rubio yet. I think they might also give Graham a speaking spot to bolster his 'conservative' credentials in case he gets primaried in 2014.

Just realized I made a topic about this in a different forum. Maybe someone can merge the two?

I put the list from the 1st round up there. Rubio is speaking, along with DeMint, Cruz and Ron.

I hope the public doesn't catch on to this but ... Ron and Rand both being there does kind of make the straw poll winner obvious.
If Rubio comes in a close second its as good as first will say the media.

Rand needs to win by a lot - but that will still be spun, just not as badly. Rubio coming in 3rd or lower would be good for us - especially is a non-factor (like Gingrich or even better DeMint) came in second.

I say this to say it ... I really don't know how we will have any power over who comes in second.

I want Rand to come in first, Ron in second.

Ron should direct his supporters to vote for Rand otherwise we could split the vote and let a neocon win.

You only get one vote. I would rather Rand come in first and Ron last. A vote for Ron is a vote taken away from Rand. Rand won't win if many liberty supporters vote for Ron.

  15. #13
And truthfully, I would rather Rand have a good showing and not win. He doesn't need more spotlight right now.

  16. #14
I don't think Ron will be on the ballot

I bet they'll put him on it precisely to split the Rand/Ron vote and ensure Rubio wins.
