Cruz opens double-digit lead in Texas primary runoff

Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Ted Cruz has opened up a double-digit lead in his Texas primary showdown with Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.

Cruz, a Tea Party favorite, leads Dewhurst 52-42 percent according to a survey released Monday by Public Policy Polling (PPP). Cruz has doubled his lead from a similar poll two weeks ago.

Coupled with high-profile endorsements by prominent Republicans including former Gov. Sarah Palin (Alaska), former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.), and Sen. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Cruz is now poised to win election to the U.S. Senate despite never having run for political office before.

Yes he did. Cruz actually has a ton of endorsements. Here is the list

@asurfaholic, Yeah, but Ron, Rand, Amash, and Gun Owners of America did too, so I would say that evens it out. Alot of our candidates have recieved "endorsements" from people we don't like, but usually they are given just to help the endorser.

I find it interesting that the reason that Cruz is "cruising" to victory, is the fact that he does much better amoung young voters.

He's similar to Palin, Demint, Rubio. Up to you to decide if he's a liberty guy.

very confusing list of endorsements. Mark Levin and Ron Paul? This guy must be good at talking out both sides of his mouth.

If Rand is happy to get him in the Senate with him, then I'm a happy camper.

Rand would like Romney in the White House, too. I'm assuming you'll be a happy camper if Romney wins?

An endorsement of an upcoming Senator to help Rand in said house is different than a political one that everyone and their brother is doing towards R-money for prez. I see your still stuck in the Rand-hating time warp tho. Cool. Awesome

Not really. Levin is basically a lunatic regarding foreign policy and very close everywhere else.

I don't care about endorsements. In terms of being liberty, the clear plumbline has been established by Ron Paul. Is Cruz (relatively) pro-peace/non-interventionist, pro-end the Fed/antibanksters, pro-civil liberties (pre Patriot Act era), and pro-Constitution in the sense of strictly limiting federal power? Or will he be like Rubio, and jump on a plane to Israel as soon as he gets elected?

Yes to the bolded parts, at least his rhetoric. I don't know about the non-interventionist though. Don't think he's standing with us on that. But he is opposed to the NDAA and Patriot Act if i recollect.

It's really hard to tell. When I speak to staffers, they swear up and down that he is against nation-building. But, they peg me as a RP supporter in pretty short order and I don't even mention his name or the term, non-interventionism.

yeah. He has made no qualms that he supports pre-emptive war with Iran.

    Ugh. Well crap.

That is probably why he has the support of Levin and co.

Can you point me to where you saw him making no qualms, Trey? Thanks.

He's more of a Tea Partier than a Libertarian but more constitution friendly than Dewhurst.

Cruz came out strongly against NDAA and SOPA, that alone makes him better then alot of you are giving him credit for.

  25. #22
I'm watching a tube of the last debate right now and boy did Dewhurst make an ass of himself. lol

Pretty boring debate though, thus far.

Ron Paul can't be fooled. He's one of the most intelligent men I know. He wouldn't endorse anyone he doesn't think is a true liberty fighter.

I view him as being similar to Mike Lee as well. Very good on fiscal issues and civil liberties issues, and sort of middle of the road, hawkish leaning on foreign policy issues.
