As those familiar with the LP know, Harry Browne, the author, was the nominee in 1996 and 2000, and passed away from ALS in 2006. How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World was first published in 1973 (way before I was born lol), and has been updated a few times since then. It is the classic libertarian self-help book, which I enjoyed reading and I strongly recommend to anyone reading this. For those who have read it, there are a few issues I would like to hear others' thoughts on. Discussion Points: It contains one major logical fallacy about selfishness: it's ok to always put oneself first because "everybody else is doing it". What are some more logically sound ways Browne could have made this point without resorting to a bandwagon, which seems extremely ironic for someone like him to make? Browne repeatedly told readers to evade taxes and regulations instead of joining political movements to remove them. Is the former really preferable to the latter when it comes to the consequences of being caught doing such and does not get anywhere with reducing government, and why or why not? Browne mentioned in the book that in the process of prioritizing his own self-interest he had completely abandoned his young daughter because he and his then-wife were miserable together. When he updated it decades later, he claimed he and his now adult daughter had eventually re-met and no ill will existed between them years after the fact. Fatherless homes are a big contemporary problem among the younger generations, and if you have read my Vent post from last month, you know I am from a broken family where my parents split when I was a child; I thank God every day my dad didn't give me up like this and I still got to see him some growing up, so even if this story eventually had a happy ending I still take concern with this example of positive selfishness. Should having child offspring be an exception to putting yourself first? In one of Browne's updates after his first presidential campaign, he addressed a complaint that it was hypocritical of him to run for president after he had written a book condemning any political action. He defended this by claiming he only ran for education reasons and not with the intention to actually be elected president. Do you agree with him that having done this was consistent with the philosophy he espoused in his book, or do you think this response was a cop-out?

This exactly, I actually got scolded back when I was a liberal-by-default teenager by both a teacher and my own mother for thinking Kim Davis' punishment was too harsh, and I did not even defend what she had done (this incident dates me a little). Although I have never personally objected to same-sex marriage, as the government should not be involved in marriage in the first place, that was still a big red pill moment for me as it made me realize I wasn't "socially liberal" in the same way they were.

He has been away since Thursday 4/22, and his daughter's death was announced almost a week ago on Sunday 4/25. It is still unknown when he will be able to be back. Daniel was gone for quite a while when he lost his father late last year, but he had to travel for the funeral. The case may be different for the Pauls as to when and where Lori's funeral is.

This fails to surprise me at all, like most here probably. What we see now is the Bush-to-Obama shift of my childhood on meth. :unamused:

When I tried to watch it in my notifications, YouTube told me it had been "removed by the uploader". There aren't any clips of it on Twitter either. It's the same thing that happened when Ron Paul had a stroke live in September, only that can't be the case this time since he's not here this week as he's still understandably mourning his daughter. :sorrow: I did see there was a guest with Daniel in the title tho. Is it still on any of the alternative platforms?

Remember, just like a lot of other things these days it's not about what is said anymore but only about who says it. :unamused:

I'd take Caitlyn over Gavin any day of the week. She sounds good so far just on what was posted here, but I'd still need to compare her platform to Kevin Faulconer's and any other replacements in this recall.

Where the hell are the disability rights people here? I know people who go on until the cows come home about that kinda stuff, but they're so engulfed in MSM politics their mantras about "self-advocacy" and "don't cure, accept" appear to be absolutely secondary to an underlying further agenda that does not speak for many of the people they claim to be champions of.
