That would be impossible for a single state to do. It does nullify it. No need to specifically speak about it because it's clear that's what's being addressed. USA Today gets it. You are just being obtuse. One restriction is at odds with the other. That's a plus.

 Wrong. I said there was a mandate. Quote one place I said there wasn't a mandate. You said the Florida law banning cruise ships asking about vaccine status had nothing to do with the mandate. You were wrong. Actually...they did nullify the CDC's mandate. That's the point of the USA Today article. Reading comprehension is fundamental.

I borrowed a book from my church that had a verse by verse breakdown of the book of Romans....but it skipped those verses. I took it back. On the flip side conservative Christians often fail to keep reading chapter 2 verses 1 - 4. 2 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2 Now we know that Godís judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3 So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape Godís judgment? 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that Godís kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? So...everybody is under the same judgement. But that's not the end of the story. Romans 8:1-2 Romans 8:1-2 New King James Version. 8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

LOL. It says test cruises do not have the SAME mandate WHICH MEANS THE OTHER CRUISES DO HAVE THAT MANDATE! But occasionally they do something good. Like banning cruises from inquiring about vaccine status. This was a case of DeSantis stepping on something the CDC under Trump did. Ban the CDC.

But the government mandating the business have a 95% vaccination rate requires businesses to inquire about vaccination rates. The Florida law bans businesses from inquiring about vaccination rates. Pretend what's going on isn't all you want.

Thanks! And now I'll say the song you posted deserves a lyrics dump. To be honest I love Talking Heads but sometimes I can't catch all that's being sung. I didn't know this was an anti-war song until today. I thought it was something about a crazy party. (This ain't no disco). Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons Packed up and ready to go Heard of some grave sites, out by the highway A place where nobody knows The sound of gunfire, off in the distance I'm getting used to it now Lived in a brownstone, lived in a ghetto I've lived all over this town

And you don't think the evil Soviet empire didn't try that? Sorry, I think you're being incredibly naive here. That and the terror training camps were gone by 2003. They relocated to Pakistan, a U.S. ally. When Al Qaeda showed up again as a fighting force it was in Iraq and Syria and to a smaller extent in Libya and Egypt. So all we basically did was cause the problem to metastasize. But o my knowledge there have not been any terror attacks that were, officially anyway, originated from inside Afghanistan post 2001. So by your "logic" we "won" the war in Afghanistan even as we lose the insurgency. There were no need for any of your tactics, which frankly didn't work for the Soviets (you never seem to want to address that fact) when they tried it.

You're arguing that we could have "won" Vietnam the same way we "won" Korea. Ummmm....maybe. But I don't think we were any rougher on the North Koreans than we were on the North Vietnamese. Did the North Koreans have the equivalent of the Viet Cong in the South the way the North Vietnamese did? Just did a quick net search on guerilla fighters in the Korean war and the only guerillas I see were on our side. See: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donkey_Squads_(Korean_War) It's not enough to have support of some or even most of the populace in your base of operations. If the enemy has significant support in your base of operations, but you have no real support in his base of operations, you're in trouble. In WW II (and WW I), Germany had to deal with constant guerilla attack in the countries it occupied. So did Japan. The U.S. never had that problem. It doesn't sound like the U.S. had that problem in South Korea either. We certainly had that problem in South Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. The Korean war only lasted 3 years. The Vietnam war lasted 20. In terms of casualties per day, Korea was MUCH worse. But there seemed to be no end to the Vietnam war. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_military_casualties_of_war

People were definitely dying before the vaccine. Some (many?) of those deaths were not really because of COVID but were still listed as such. But vaccinated people have also definitely died of COVID as well as have died from the vaccine itself. One nursing home that had no COVID deaths in 2021 had over 20 deaths in the first quarter of 2021 after the vaccine rollout in January. Of course. Why waste a potential phrama vaccine bonanza on a one shot (no pun intended) deal?

I think the left hatred for Rand is multifactorial. Ron was consistent. Rand is not. I don't think Ron would have signed off on the Tom Cotton letter. In fact I'm certain he wouldn't have. And Ron wouldn't have picked a fight with an ad hominem attack against Ilhan Omar. "If you have a problem with 'Merika go back to your home cuntry!" I know (or at least I think) Rand did those things to placate the teocons. But, for some odd reason, he didn't get the traction with the teocons that I thought he would. He got enough traction to win the senate, and I believe he could stay in the senate as long as Strom Thurman using his current formula if he wished. But it's like the teocons know "Yeah...you're not really with us but thanks for the assists" and the liberals think the same thing. Back to Desantis, I despise him now and I think you might after learning this. His "anti vaccine passport bill" gives the Florida equivalent of Dr. Fauci the power, under a health emergency declared by himself, to do forced vaccinations and quarantines. See: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?554512-Florida-Win-Against-Vaccine-Passports-for-Cruises&p=7045092&viewfull=1#post7045092 So...I'm back to Rand or bust.

Posted for TheCount. That said, as Firestarter pointed out, there is hidden language in the Florida bill that lets the Florida equivalent of Dr. Fauci institute forced vaccinations and quarantines. https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/cruises/2021/05/27/cruise-ship-covid-vaccine-rule-cdc-florida-vaccine-passport-ban/7464685002/ Celebrity Cruises is the first cruise line to receive approval from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to sail with paying passengers. But there's a complication: Florida law. The CDC approval hinges on a vaccine requirement. Celebrity, a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Group, will require 100% of crew members and 95% of passengers who will be on board the Celebrity Edge to be fully vaccinated when the ship sets sail on a seven-night cruise June 26 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and for sailings thereafter. But that requirement is at odds with a Florida state law banning "vaccine passports," which goes into effect on July 1, and is also outlined in an executive order from Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Fair enough. I know what it's like to have a beef with someone on the Internet. I've been engaged in online discussions since the days of dial up. :D But I still find the topic itself interesting. I wonder if in a few decades you'll see conservative Christians immigrating to eastern Europe in search of religious freedom?

Actually I think this is an interesting thread. Sorry you're prejudiced against the OP. Many conservative Christians in the U.S. hitched their "culture war" hopes on a man who's very Christianity is questionable at best (Trump said he doesn't even remember saying he was sorry to God), and who ultimately failed them miserably in that regard. It is less safe now to openly express traditional Christian views on homosexuality than ever before. Meanwhile the "godless communist east" has become Jerry Farwell's (R.I.P.) wet dream. If nothing else, this helps explain why, all of a sudden, Marxists in the U.S. hate a former KGB officer. (Putin).

I'm still waiting for you to explain how a 95% vaccination rate mandate for cruises could be enforced without a vaccine passport. I asked you that in a related thread. Until you answer that one question, it's clear you're just blowing smoke. Actually that's been clear for a while now.

That just shows you know nothing about the Afghan war. The Russians flattened and then controlled what was left of the Afghan major cities. The surviving population didn't need to "manufacture more war materials" because they were being supplied them by the United States. And rather than being "demoralized" they were just more pissed off. Who was going to supply the Germans more war materials? Oh...that's right. Nobody. The Afghans couldn't beat the Soviets in a straight up war, so it became a war of attrition. It was the Vietnam Jimmy Carter Zbignew Brezynski hoped it would be. And when we upped the ante under Ronald Reagan by giving them stinger missiles that became too much. Despite being an authoritative regime that thrived on propaganda, the Soviets couldn't keep a lid on what was going on and mass desertions and draft dodging became a problem. On top of that, there was not one single leader, like an Adolf Hitler, that was keeping the Afghans fighting but rather an ideology and a fierce sense of independence. And back to your original point, the U.S. actually did "win" the Afghan war if "winning" meant driving out Al Qaeda. OBL was "killed" in Pakistan. (I have no idea what really happened to OBL other than to say it didn't happen the way we were told it happened.) OBL was out of Afghanistan prior to the U.S. invasion. So we could, and should, have just said "We won" and gone home. But we were trying to control a country that cannot be long term controlled. As Mao put it, the key to guerrilla warfare is patients. You cannot win a guerrilla war be "demoralizing" people. You win it by transforming people. Germans followed Hitler in large part because the allies destroyed their economy post World War I. The peace was won by rebuilding the German economy. Same with Japan. We tried to rebuild the Afghan economy and poured billions in to try to do that. But the militants became the agents of destruction. Just "destroying more" wouldn't have done squat.
