stablecoins use blockchain, blockchain requires validation. Crypto calls it mining, blockchain services call it validation. Same thing, some machine is stamping blocks to make the blockchain secure. It matters how those stablecoin systems are designed, there are a few. Many stablecoins exist on ETH which is a whole other beast. Some use permissioned servers, meaning it's not totally decentralized and can avoid the bitcoin arms war. Some are entirely centralized so only need a few servers running. In the end a stablecoin should be stable, otherwise it is worthless. Then again people are still using Tether even though it is only 4% liquid. As to bitcoin, it will always be a total energy hog unless there is a consensus to change the backend algorithm. Currently I don't see that ever happening. The largest mining pools would lose their income stream so there would be no advantage to them to change anything, and those larger pools control the majority of the network. This energy draw will only increase as long as Bitcoin has any value.

moneygram had an agreement with ripple to handle international value movement, they are no longer working together after the SEC problems. Not sure if they will come back into the good graces of their previous partners. Real world usage is important for older coins like XRP

Simple, because most companies do things as cheap as possible and only worry about the existing stock prices. IT is usually the one begging for the funding to do things right. These natural, or legislated, monopolies like a pipeline mean there is no competitive reason to do things better. Had a friend who worked IT at an electric provider, the last time they did any changes was for Y2K. Working backups? Yeah right. A ransomware would lock things up with no chance of bringing up a replacement system. (Then again even tech savvy companies like Pixar almost lost Toy Story 2 because their backups were not working, bad IT is everywhere)

Haven't you heard the new Qonspiracy? Trump will win Florida Senate in 2022, become speaker. Successfully impeaches Biden & Harris to become president again, then he can run in 2024.

Have they given a full detail of the attack? Drop USBs around an office building and even non connected machines can get a ransomware from idiots seeing what they found.
