An Albuquerque Journal article in Wednesday’s paper about millions of Santa Fe County funds paying for a film studio to be owned by two childhood friends of Bill Richardson, now Hollywood moguls, and the Chairman of the State Democratic Party

[Lance and Conrad Hool’s] “Santa Fe movie studio. . .is receiving $16 million in state and county financing, which will cover the majority of the cost of the project.”

“Both Lance Hool and a representative of the Governor’s Office said that Hool’s Richardson connection had nothing to do with the funding for Santa Fe Studios.”

[Hool’s] “donations to Richardson’s campaign totaled almost $8,000 in 2007” and they held a fundraising party in Los Angeles for the Governor.”

“NM State Party chairman Javier Gonzales. . .minority owner in Santa Fe Studios. . .gave Richardson $2,300 for [his] presidential campaign.”

“Richardson’s office said the state appropriated the $10 million between 2004-2008 to go to Santa Fe County to help pay for the film studio.”

The story goes on to describe the Hool’s and Richardson played neighborhood baseball together in their wealthy neighborhood in Mexico City.

OUR tax money is being used to fund a private movie studio enterprise for friends of Bill Richardson and Javier Gonzales to the tune of $16 million. This deal was turned down by private banks. God only knows if one cent of this money will ever be paid back to us the taxpayers. The purpose of this investment is so Bill Richardson and Javier Gonzales can fondle movie stars!

This is happening while our local volunteer fire-fighters are going door-to-door to beg for funds to operate our rural fire departments! And we’ve just been asked to fund a $2 million per year “Fire Excise Tax” to assist our local fire and rescue companies!

$16 million OF OUR MONEY to Bill’s friends for a movie studio and $0 for local, courageous fire-fighters. “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.”

What about yesterday’s exposure of the millions squandered by Santa Fe County’s attempt to build a $38 million courthouse on land with containments tested at 584 times over legal levels?

Where’s the local news media on the recent stimulus funds to provide jobs at a cost of $512,788 for each job saved.

The “Fire Excise Tax” was defeated, but it the responsibility of each and every one of us to demand of each County Commissioner they tend solely to the needs of the residents of Santa Fe County. At a minimum, Commissioners must start with necessary funds promptly provided to assure our very deserving firefighters of all resources necessary to do their job in protecting life and property of the citizens of Santa Fe County. This, while ceasing to spend on their usual political boondoggles as they have, starting with the Santa Fe Ring in 1866.

It is as bad as Hawaii here... Luckily, the internet is destroying the traditional tools of the machine and people are connecting the dots.

Everyone I talk to here readily admits the machine corruption here is legendary. We have people that can't have their name show up on FEC reports. We have lots of republicans registered as dems because of business reasons. This is the year to break the machine...
