That is famous French sculptor Louise Bourgeois' "Maman". It travels the globe and often is placed in front of prominent art galleries and city centers.
It's really a beautiful piece.
"The essence of the Liberal outlook lies not in what opinions are held, but in how they are held: instead of being held dogmatically, they are held tentatively, and with a consciousness that new evidence may at any moment lead to their abandonment."
-Bertrand Russell
I received positive rep for extreme sarcasm from a person who thought I was serious ... please look up Poe's Law
There it is in London.
There it is in Canada.
Created in 1999 and named Maman in tribute to the artist's mother, its appearance outside the Tate Modern art gallery is the first time it has been on display outdoors in Britain.
"The Spider is an ode to my mother. She was my best friend. Like a spider, my mother was a weaver," the 95-year-old Bourgeois said in a statement.
"Like spiders, my mother was very clever. Spiders are friendly presences that eat mosquitoes. We know that mosquitoes spread diseases and are therefore unwanted. So, spiders are helpful and protective, just like my mother," she added.
Maman (1999)[1] is a sculpture by the artist Louise Bourgeois. The sculpture, which resembles a spider, is over 30ft high, with a sac containing marble eggs. Besides the stainless steel version on long-term loan to the Tate Modern, London, there are seven bronze casts, located at:
* National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa
* State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg
* Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
* Mori Art Museum, Roppongi, Tokyo
* Samsung Museum of Modern Art (Leeum), Seoul
* Jardin des Tuileries, Paris
* Havana, Cuba[2]
I like it a little better now that I know the story behind it. Nevertheless I do not get a warm, maternal feeling from it. It's rather sinister and dark.
Oh those NWO PTB "cut ups".
"Gentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time and I am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank...You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the grace of the Eternal God, will rout you out."- Andrew Jackson (The Guy on the 20)
