Senate Passes Partisan $1.9 Trillion Coronavirus Package

    Wendell Husebo 6 Mar 2021

The $1.9 trillion coronavirus package, which includes $1,400 stimulus payments and $350 billion to cities and states, passed the Senate Saturday afternoon 50 to 49.

Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) was absent due to a family emergency.

All Republicans, including Collins and Murkowski, voted no. https://t.co/UdoE3FPru0

Senate passes Biden’s stimulus plan on party-line vote, 50-49. Dems applaud

    Sullivan absent

    — Burgess Everett (@burgessev) March 6, 2021

The bill will now return to the House of Representatives to proceed through the process of reconciliation before the House votes again on any modifications. In essence, the 221 House Democrats will decide if they wish to imperial President Joe Biden’s first year in office.

The Senate-amended bill also includes a $300 weekly federal unemployment benefit through August 2021. The change is an adjustment to the legislation passed in the House, which sought to increase the benefits to $400 a week.

The $15 minimum wage hike will not be included in the bill. Seven Democrat senators on Friday joined all Senate Republicans in voting against Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (D-VT) proposal to increase the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour.

The bill also includes other items on the Democrat’s wish list: funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), more Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) subsidies, rent relief, paid sick leave, and paid family leave.

That better have been a hell of an emergency. And after a year of remote voting and vote by proxy, he couldn't get a vote counted on this?

Edit: Apparently it was for his father in laws funeral. That’s too bad, but how many other votes is he missing? Is Schumer going to ram through everything but the kitchen sink before he comes back?

Seems like a valid criticism whether it is principled or not. Worth noting Trump pushing for $2k stimmies is a big reason this bill passed. It put the Georgia senators in an impossible position and caused them to lose their runoffs.

Why would it even matter? Dems have the majority when you factor in Harriss. They can do whatever they want no matter how many GOP senators are missing. You can thank Trump for this situation. GOP would have held GA and the senate if it wasn't for Trump and his trumpkins.

Well hell, I guess all of the GOP might as well go on vacation for the next two years.

Honestly, they might as well. They are just along for the ride. Dems have made it clear they will use reconcilliation to spend whatever they want to.

It is a valid criticism. My post is an expression of my frustration that the same people who ignored or downplayed any such criticism for the past four years will suddenly find themselves to be true believers in fiscal responsibility yet again

    All roads lead to Trump...

It couldn't have had anything to do with COVID relaxed absentee voting and lack of verification.

The good news is that Georgia is moving to fix those non-existent loopholes and gaps in their voting system.

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger won wide praise last fall for firmly rejecting then-President Donald Trump’s false claims of voter fraud. But now that those claims have spawned an effort to tighten voting laws — one that could affect their political fortunes — the two Republicans are taking a softer approach.

Oh, yeah. It is. So overcooked you would bend a fork putting it in. Only option left is the dissolution of current government. Like a bankruptcy and restructuring. Stakeholders need to fire the entire board and write a new mission statement.

The U.S. currently has about a 200 trillion dollar unfunded debt liability. Add in the national debt which is about 22 Trillion, and one can easily see a national financial calamity on the horizon, just like that in Venezuela.
