Since the show is billed as a comedy, I'm certain they don't really believe he was gay but rather they are trying to gin up emotions and controversy. It sure has worked.

I doubt this “comedy group” will be making fun of Mohammad at any time of year, and not as a special on an Islamic high holiday. And probably no comedies about Jewish people on Jewish holidays. These free speech loving “comedians” wouldn’t risk making fun of those religions. Hindus? Unlikely. Buddhists? Probably not.
