Trump tells lawmakers he won't support extending current surveillance laws

President Donald Trump told top House and Senate Republicans on Tuesday evening that he would not support a clean extension of federal surveillance powers and called for them to work out a deal with Democrats on how to move forward.
“The president made it exceedingly clear he will not accept a clean re-authorization ... without real reform," Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), told reporters after the meeting. "He was told by the attorney general, we can massage around the edges and we can fix this through regulation, the president didn't accept that, pushed back very vigorously and said 'we're not doing this.'"

Remind me when he actually reforms the surveillance laws, not just when he talks about it. We all know talk is cheap especially when trump is concerned

Just passing along what Rand Paul said. Take it as you want it. I really don't give a $#@! how you feel about it.

Yes, the same man who said this?

I have never been prouder of President Donald Trump. In today’s meeting, he stood up for a strong America and steadfastly opposed foreign wars. Putting America First means declaring victory in Afghanistan and Syria. President Trump is delivering on his promises.
Yea, I am still waiting for action not words, Rand is a fan boy and people should be very skeptical of what Rand thinks of Trump's actions.

I am so glad Rand is working with the President on this. If anyone needs to be in President Trump's ear, it is Rand.

Yea I see that, just giving my two cents to the thread. I hope I don't need to remind you the fact that this is a PUBLIC discussion forum. You post information of the forum and any member is allowed to discuss the issue. I hope me giving my two cents on the topic did not trigger you

You are not a lone in that camp, sadly many people can't look beyond a books cover. They care more about cover over content, style over substance, fashion instead of functions, dogma over data........... I could go on. I am the same person I have always been. The avatar changed other people's perception of me but it never changed me.

Some people have me on ignore after the changed which can help dampen the message come from my account but I will continue to reply to posts that I think I have something to contribute to like this one.

Trump is motivated to see reform because of the impeachment mess. From public comments at the time, it seems a lot of GOP senators had their eyes opened and are listening a little more open mindedly to Mike Lee et. al. on this issue. For probably the first time ever, I'm hopeful that there might be actual progress on this issue.

"reform" in this case means keeping the surveillance while removing the FISA court

And because someone will say that the sky isn't blue and the grass isn't green, here is Trump's tweet supporting the FISA extension in 2018:

    Good!

Let's hope he sticks to his guns on this.

    Good on Rand as well.

Trump does good stuff like this all the time. When he completes this, you will say the same thing you always do. You will change the subject and complain about the debt.

It’s election time- time for trump to ramp up the rhetoric.

Still waiting on the endless wars to end.

Good on Rand for continuing to push the issues, at least it’s in the conversation.

At the end of the day Rand Paul and Donald Trump are just 2 people and all the talk in the world is useless when the Congress is full of trash
