Suicide rates have nothing to do with it (trivial effect on population); it's about birth rates.

Birth rates decline as incomes rise.

Are you suggesting the middle class incomes are on the rise?

This is hotly debated in fact.

    My own view is that:

    (a) the move away from the farm decreases the economic value of having more children to plow the fields

...my German ancestors had double digit numbers of children; me and my current relatives don't.

and, (b) the cost of raising a kid cradle to college has massively increased (farmers didn't use to go to college).

I believe that there is a natural decline from a higher standard of living but the collapse we are witnessing is too far for that to be natural, what is happening now is the result of people having so much stolen from them that they can barely afford to support themselves so they don't have any children and those that do have only one or two.

The cost of living goes up because wages get depressed when you have a mass migration of people.

It can be and is both.

On the one hand, the old economic incentive to have as many kids as possible (when labor was short) is gone, because of growth.

On the other hand, because of extremely interventionist policy it's harder to support college-bound kids.

Japan is the perfect example of this, since they have virtually no immigration - a contained laboratory experiment.

The kids moved to the city (the farmers stopped producing lots of kids), and then the parents couldn't afford keeping kids, because...

Supply and demand doesn't go away just because you want it to, thats why healthcare costs and college tuition rates and houses and rent skyrocket with more migration. Especially because lots of those industries are artificially manipulated, so you could say its not entirely mass migrations fault, but slowing down the amount of people coming here would decrease the cost of medicine, housing, healthcare, education, because those costs are artificially high through manipulation of supply.

Not in Japan (virtually no immigration).

And R3v is right that government intervention is the primary problem BUT immigrants have seriously contributed to the rise in government intervention IN AMERICA.
The fact that they didn't in Japan just means Japan isn't America and that we may not want too many Japanese coming here.

Its not just the voting for government intervention, its supply side economics. Our public education is $#@!, they cram so many people into classrooms when kids are at their most vulnerable stages of life and put both parents to work. They get taught to hate themselves in school most of the time and they get no love from parents too tired from work at home and thats if there are two parents at home, most the time its one parent.

The Nips are about the most efficient people in the world (second perhaps to Germans).

They're on the road to collapse because of their idiot-government's policies (which, if you haven't noticed, are now our government's policies).

    ...i.e. perma-QE

They do have problems with suicide etc but this is trivial in the grand scheme of things.

They have always had a self destructive society, they are a very proud people and their culture was westernized but still they are extremely conservative and socially repressed and in a war of nerves with the Chinese.

I don't disagree with any of that, but that isn't why Japan is declining.

self hatred is the crux if it all. People that love themselves and especially psychopathic people who are enamored with themselves see themselves in their kids and have lots of kids in order to be around themselves all the time.

They live their entire life in a fantasy setting and never want to leave it. They even have a syndrome for people who fantacize about paris and then when they finally go to paris and its nothing like their fantasy they kill themselves. They end up literally loving their fantasy so much they kill themselves because their life sucks in comparison. They literally get cocaine like highs from their addiction of fantasy and when their fantasy fades away they kill themselves because they feel like their life is hell compared to their fantasy, they are called otaku. They don't even move on with their lives because they would rather live in their fantasy than the real world and literally hate themselves compared to their fantasy.

They use group think to manipulate people into thinking that its normal behavior, herd mentality. They put people into constant duress by forcing unobtainable standards on them that only the brightest and hardest working can do. It forces people to work really hard, but it also tends to force people to completely die inside in order to make room in their brain for the stuff they want to make them do.

Note how the birth rate was already in steep decline when mass Hispanic immigration began in the mid 60s.

By the early 70s, it was about the same as it's been ever since.

I wonder how the then very new arrivals caused this to occur?
Interesting chart. The steep drop in the birth rate coincided directly with the introduction of the birth control pill in 1960.

It's not "socialism" that has caused the decline in U.S. birth rates. It's birth control. The socialism introduced by FDR actually coincided with the baby boom. (Big increase of U.S. birth rates). Birth rates are actually up from their low in 1975. And the reason why Latino birth rates are much higher than white or black birth rates is simple. They are overwhelmingly Catholic and the pope doesn't approve of birth control. Many Americanized Catholics ignore the pope on this, but not first generation immigrants.

And the age group having the biggest decline in birth rates? Why it's the teenagers! Isn't that what we want?

Hispanics, Native Americans and Blacks have all had bigger declines in birth rates than whites.

Of course birth control is related.
But it is far from the only cause, socialism is a big part of the cause but it took time before its malicious effects built up enough to drive down birth rates ever farther, it also skews births in favor of the immigrants, their children and minorities who benefit from welfare and away from the native majority who are taxed to pay for it all.
