Pretty much. First ancestors came over in 1633. Not the Mayflower, but not long after. Strong thread of leadership and service for many generations. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Truth is Truth no matter where it comes from. If my ancestors guarded a truth, I will defend it.
If (as is very often the case) they rigorously defended a lie, I will point that out.
If people who were not my ancestors guarded a truth, I will latch on to that truth irrespective of the fact that I'm not related to them.

For instance, I am neither Greek nor Russian, but both of those ethnic groups did a much better job guarding religious truth than anyone else, so I latched on to it.

More mundanely, the Japanese have done some incredibly interesting things with food to make it both delicious and healthy, and I eat it regularly. But they as a people have an awful lot of baggage that is very much on the wrong side of that Truth line, and I want nothing to do with it.

I have no idea what my ancestry line looks like, it's impossible to know if there's anything to be proud of, but even though i never got to have any relationship with my dad, I'm pretty convinced he's a loser so I have to say I'm not too proud of those who go came before me.

My ancestors came from various European countries and I'm damn glad they did, I wouldn't want to live there now....

So I suppose I'm 'proud' of them for being common folk who had the gumption to leave but I'm not especially 'proud' to be bred from the same stock as modern day socialists....

    As for their 'homeland'.............No ....

Yes... My ancestors came from Sweden and Germany. We still celebrate the cycles of the year, solstices/equinoxes, seasons, etc. Yule, etc.

Sure, not in a nationalistic way, but I'm quite keen on the culture of the old country.

I'd have more pride if they would have solved the Injun and Mexican problem when they had them on the run.

I don't think someone should necessarily have pride for something they didn't personally do, but there is nothing wrong with it. On the other hand, I think it is abhorrent to teach kids to be ashamed of their heritage as they do now in schools and the media.

If I had been dictator , I would have just annexed Mexico in 1848 then the US would have had a small border to guard . Everyone cannot be as brilliant as the ol' War Chief .

Europeans are kind of defective by nature . Most problems in the US now can be attributed to that . If they ever had a specialty I would guess it to be tyranny .

Sorry, left out two "greats", if I am recalling this properly.

    My grandmother's grandmother's brother.

Could possibly have been my grandmother's mother's brother.

Been a long time since I looked at the family tree chart.

So, you're advocating some form of nationalism which is incompatible with libertarianism?

My ancestors conquered this land and took it from the native savages.

Then later went on to conquer the British.

Both the natives and the British, fought like pickled ninnies, so I've been told

I've never been to Northern Ireland, but if you get a chance to go to sovereign Ireland, take it. There's a whole lot to take in, in the rest of Western Europe, but Ireland... Ireland is the place where I would actually choose to live. I've never been to another place where people were just so... nice to me, all the time.

So yeah, in the vein of the thread, I've got some Irish blood in my veins, and I guess you could say I would like to think that, even though I am thoroughly American, I still have a tenuous bond to Ireland. I've never felt that for Germany, or England, or Pennsylvania, or anywhere else my family came from. And come to think of it, nothing makes me want to get up and move my feet like a proper reel.
