    Precog Police

Sounds straight out of the film Minority Report.

LASER uses technology developed by the CIA's venture capital arm to realize a post-9/11 dream that allows investigators to match up vast troves of data from 15 separate sources to connect dots that they otherwise might miss.

Funded by federal grants, it launched in 2011 in Newton, and an expansion funded by additional money in October, brought the program to a total of eight areas throughout the city, plus the department's high-tech analysis unit and its helicopters.

More than 3,500 LAPD officers have been trained to use Palantir, a platform that was introduced initially to speed up the process of creating dossiers on chronic offenders and is now used throughout the department for a variety of investigative purposes.

Officials from New York, Nevada, Wisconsin, Washington, Texas and Canada have been briefed on LASER, said Craig Uchida, president of Justice & Security Strategies, Inc., and the program's research partner.

The capabilities of Palantir Torch are astonishing.

Nine minutes in for some pretty eye opening discussion on the capabilities of Palantir Torch.

It is the social media monitoring aspect of Palantir used by many in law enforcement and various government agencies, no doubt. As it stands every public tweet is collected by a company called Gnip (which boasts: "4 BILLION PER DAY: With the most sources, the most customers, and the most robust infrastructure, Gnip reliably delivers an enormous stream of social media data.)

There are various means to search the data files for keywords, geolocation information offered by cellular phones, etc.

15 seconds from the time you tweet until the time it shows up in Torch.

“We all thought it was somewhat hocus pocus and Minority Report,” she said, referring to the Steven Spielberg sci-fi film in which police used psychic powers to stop murders before they happened. “We could see if PredPol was predicting fairly well. It’s kind of scary, because they were.”

“Many think ‘that can’t happen here,’ and it was well on the way to happening,” said Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha.

Authorities in Texas have arrested a local man who they say plotted to carry out a “mass casualty event” at a Walmart.

Coleman Thomas Blevins, 28, of Kerrville, was arrested Friday after authorities said they intercepted a message from him indicating that he was preparing to proceed with a mass shooting at the store.

“This case reminds us that we need to always be vigilant. Many think ‘that can’t happen here,’ and it was well on the way to happening,” Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said in a statement.

Wonder if Uber & Lyft capture pictures of riders? and if those are shared with law enforcement?

    Precrime?

    Look into "Constructive Possession".

    it bit me once.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

I don't think so. You have to use submit your photo to be a driver but not a rider. But as a rider they do have your CC info.
