Exclamation Trump says immigration raids will happen after July 4

President Trump said Monday that delayed immigration raids will begin after the July 4 holiday.

The president made the announcement in the Oval Office while signing legislation providing $4.6 billion in funding to address the influx of migrants from Central America at the southern border.

“After July 4, a lot of people are going to be brought back out,” Trump told reporters.

Trump said late last month he was temporarily delaying the sweeping raids and told Congress it had two weeks to pass new restrictions on asylum laws, a policy opposed by Democrats who control the House.

The raids planned by Immigration and Customs Enforcement were called off after Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called Trump and urged him to scuttle the operations. There were also concerns inside the administration that leaks about the raids could have jeopardized them.

Trump telegraphed that the raids are likely to take place after his two-week deadline passes, telling reporters Saturday at a news conference in Osaka, Japan, they would take place “sometime” after July 4 “unless we do something pretty miraculous.”

The two-week time period was mostly consumed by July 4 recess, when members of Congress are not in Washington. House Democrats had cited the recess as a reason to further delay the raids.

The ICE operation was set to take place in 10 major cities and target up to 2,000 immigrant family members living illegally in the U.S. for deportation, according to multiple media reports.

He cancelled the last one because somebody released the date it was going to start. So now Trump is giving them a date again. Numbers kept getting smaller too- first "millions", then 2,000, then...zero.

More than the date was leaked last time.

    2,000 is a down-payment on the millions.

His own border patrol says they are already stretched to the max. It is physically impossible for them to try to round up "millions".

Trump renews pledge to deport millions, but ICE reality is far more limited

The president caught many White House and immigration officials off guard by announcing upcoming deportations on Twitter. Experts say that telegraphing a plan to round up undocumented immigrants could undermine its effectiveness.

President Donald Trump has begun his reelection bid by reviving a campaign promise to deport “millions of illegal aliens” from the United States, saying his administration will get to work on that goal “next week” with raids across the country.

But the president’s ambitious deportation goals have crashed, again and again, into the earthly reality of the U.S. immigration enforcement system.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is averaging approximately 7,000 deportations per month from the U.S. interior, according to the agency’s latest data. With unauthorized border crossings soaring under Trump to their highest levels in more than a decade, ICE has been facing a shortage of funds and detention beds, and experts say that a large-scale push to arrest and deport hundreds of thousands of migrants would be exorbitantly expensive and highly unlikely.

For ICE, making “at large” arrests in homes and neighborhoods — the key to chipping away at the “millions” Trump wants to expel — will require significant amounts of planning, coordination and secrecy. By telegraphing plans to begin a nationwide roundup, the president has risked undermining the effectiveness of ICE’s largest and most complex enforcement operation in years.

With hundreds of ICE agents deployed to the border in recent months, interior arrests have dipped. From October to December, the most recent period for which statistics are available, ICE deported 22,169 people from the U.S. interior, down 7% from the same period in 2017. About 10.5 million unauthorized immigrants are in the United States, according to the Pew Research Center.

To meet the president’s goal of millions of deportations, ICE would need significantly more agents and funding. ICE’s division of enforcement and removal operations has fewer than 6,000 officers nationwide who are potentially available to carry out the kind of arrests described by the president, which would entail higher risks because they would involve knocking on doors and arresting parents and children in homes and apartments.

The idea that somehow by just presidential will the agency’s going to go [up] 250% to the biggest, largest number of removals in its history is just ridiculous,” Sandweg said.
Arrests in neighborhoods and residential areas are complex and typically take months to plan, he said. Usually at least four officers are assigned to each arrest target to ensure the safety of migrants, agents and bystanders.

Sandweg also noted that children require special care, and ICE has only about 3,000 beds available for family detention.

    Hire more people?

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/border...-on-recruiting

Border Patrol Spends Nearly $2 Million Per Officer on Recruiting

A consulting company that landed a $297-million contract in November 2017 to recruit and hire 7,500 border officers has only secured 33 new hires, according to the Los Angeles Times. Accenture Federal Services, which has already been allocated $60.7 million of its contract, is expected to help fill the ranks of border officers over a five-year period. The firm’s failure to make marked progress on its promise reflects an ongoing issue in immigration and border staffing. While President Trump signed orders two years ago to hire more immigration officers and border agents, and spent “tens of millions of dollars in the effort,” there are actually thousands more openings than when his initiative began, The Times reports. Border Patrol saw 120 new agents last year.

While this is first overall increase in the past five years, it falls far short of the agency’s annual goal to meet Trump’s demand for 26,370 border agents before 2021 ends. Meanwhile, historical lows in illegal immigration on the U.S.-Mexico border has prompted the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general to question whether more hires are even necessary, the newspaper points out. Trump’s calls for tightened border security recently prompted a 35-day partial shutdown of the federal government, after Congress refused to allocate funding for a border wall.

    Naysayers are always around.

And Trump can assign other law enforcement to help like he has done on the border, it will give the FBI something to do besides committing treason.

Nothing is impossible if there is enough motivation and incentives, especially if conditions were more favorable for them elsewhere or less favorable for them here. The left often compares people coming here from oppressive governments to the way the nazis treated people, given the history if you look at it from the perspective that many people wanted to leave Germany but did not have a place to go- simply put- they marched in and they can march right back out. That's why I think some of the most racist people out there want to turn America into a $#@!hole.

Which was much better than just letting them all wander in without limits or screening.
