Thumbs down Nancy Pelosi calls illegals "Patriotic" and that ICE raids are "UnAmerican"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tytKpD6b548

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told a group of illegal aliens Saturday night that they are "very, very patriotic" while raids on illegal alien homes by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents "un-American".

Pelosi told the mostly-Hispanic group at St. Anthony's Church in San Francisco, "You are special people. You're here on a Saturday night to take responsibility for our country's future. That makes you very, very patriotic.". Immigrants who have become legal citizens were also in attendance.

Pelosi said the ICE deportation raids "must be stopped....What value system is that? I think it's un-American. I think it's un-American."

Pelosi was at the event sponsored by Democrat Party congressman Luis Gutierrez from Illinois. Gutierrez is on a whistle-stop propoganda tour to "put a human face" on illegal immigration and collect signatures for a petition to stop ICE raids

Pelosi joined Gutierrez and the crowd in a chanting of "Si Se Puede," Spanish for "Yes We Can".

The Raids are un-American. The people who are standing up for that, legal or illegal, are patriotic in that regard.

On the bright side, I HATE Nancy Pelosi and there is rumor that she may be voted out in the next election (12 days away)

As someone who has gone through the immigration process legally (over 4 years), paying my way as I went (to the tune of $10,000), this is utterly offensive to me.

Illegal immigrants = criminals. Simple as that. Agreeing to anything else is a prelude to ushering in an open-border policy that will destroy your nation in a heartbeat.

For ANY representative of the American people to turn around to illegal immigrants and say that they are "patriotic" for deliberately dodging the legal system that controls access to the American border should be grounds for immediate dismissal. Pelosi shouldn't be allowed anywhere near public office, since she obviously has no clue what representation means - all this is is pandering to a minority vote. If the Obama administration tries to legalise illegals, all they are doing is setting up a voting bloc to keep themselves and their cronies in office as long as possible.

    Awesome point you made silverhawks.

It's patriotic to break the law?

Maybe that would explain why politicians love breaking the law so much. They actually think they are being patriotic.

This woman needs to be thrown out NOW....

Coulter is VERY funny and genuinely seems to take an interest in Constitutional government and free markets. (She also spoke very well of Ron Paul in 2008)

Now, if we could only get her on board with the peace issue....

I don't think we should demonize the illegals, or glorify state immigration officials. I agree strongly with Ron Paul that this is purely an economic issue. Clearly, they shouldn't be granted amnesty and they should go home. The way to do this is through cutting off welfare for illegals.

I don't see anyone here demonizing the CRIMINAL ALIENS.

UM, so what is your view on the raids?? Do you agree with mass arrests of illegal aliens? Do you realize how many innocent people could get caught up in that if they just happened to be without their "papers" at the moment they are encountered? Do you realize how many families this would destroy?

Obviously we shouldn't be subsidizing illegal immigration, but I don't yell at a group of people and call them criminals for a non-violent victimless crime. The reason we have too many illegal aliens is because our government subsidizes it, and also because we forced Mexico to change their constitution back in the signing of NAFTA. That led to a near doubling of the poverty rate in Mexico, it almost led to a revolution until the US backed the Mexican military and it became futile.

I commit non-violent victimless crimes (federally, not at the state level) every day due to the medicine that my doctor recommends. Therefore I have no inherent problems with illegal aliens just because they committed an illegal act. Our government is directly responsible for this.

That characterization only works if they're criminals. They may all be in a technical sense. But if a law is unjust, I don't really care if people break it. By the way, I misspoke above: I meant to indicate that only those who are not working should go home. People making good-faith efforts to find employment and get off of welfare should be allowed a path to citizenship. I have always believed in that.

I can never get over how much you all are in favor of big government when it comes to immigration, and yet you all go on and on about how much you hate big government in all other aspects of your life...

Wanting to end government subsidizing of illegals is hardly pro big government.

I apologise for coming across as solely blaming the people involved. I just get VERY passionate about this issue, having personally done everything I can to do things the right way; seeing someone so vacuous as Pelosi give her seal of approval to people who haven't done things the right way, lights me up every single time. It sets a horrendous precedent.

I agree with you 100% on NAFTA - its a hideous piece of illegal legislation, and should not have been approved in the first place. Without a doubt, NAFTA should be repealed, and Mexico should be left alone to repair its constitution and its economy.

However, I still call it criminal when I see illegal aliens in the USA making demands they have no right whatsoever to make - illegal aliens that seem to be lobbying politicians demanding the US government grant them amnesty for breaking the law. I could not conceive of the sheer insanity of allowing your government to acquiesce to that demand.

As a legal alien, I would not dream in a million years of coming into this country and not following its laws, or demanding you give me a break just because I believe I should get a different deal from your natural born citizens. I would imagine that just about everyone who has gone through the legal immigration process thinks this way.

And whether the government is aiding and abetting the crime, its still a crime. I'm all in favour of controlled legal immigration, such as granting voluntary departure rights, then carefully filtering immigrants back into the country through the proper legal process.

At the same time, throw out the politicians who deliberately turn a blind eye to this issue in order to win votes, who prevent wise legislation that would handle immigration appropriately. Instead, what I see is deliberate mis-management and pandering by politicians in order to get re-elected; whether that is pandering to illegals, or pandering to the people who don't see government's involvement in the whole mess.

Lastly, illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. YOU, the US taxpayer, are the victim here, of having to assume the social burden of someone coming into the country with no intention whatsoever of doing things the legal way. Is it a lot of money to do things the legal way? Yes, over time. Is it a lot of red tape and paperwork? Yes. But it proves that the person is willing to do things the right way, and prove that they want to live and work in the USA legally.

And sometimes, we are reminded that immigration law is there to prevent violent criminals coming here.

And Feenix566, I'm not in favour of big government handling border control and immigration, because it has proven without a shadow of a doubt that it is LOUSY at doing so. In fact, I'd hold it up as one of the greatest issues conclusively proving the liberty movement's talking points against government expansion. Government all over the world seems to taking advantage of people's fears to expand, and it bothers me a great deal.

Again, some very excellent points silverhawks.

How many of you that say it's a victimless crime actually LIVE in a border state? I live in NM and let me tell you one of the main reasons NM is such a sh*t state is because of all the illegal immigration from Mexico.

These illegals cost me TONS of my tax dollars that I work very hard to LEGALLY earn. One of the reasons I sold my last house was because I lived in between two rental houses that rented to illegals. One family had 6 very UNRULY children that would BEAT their parents, spray paint everything in the neighborhood, and steal from houses/yards/stores. My tax dollars had to go to city to clean up the spray paint, my tax dollars paid for the police officers, my tax dollars probably fed and clothed their children too. And what about the man that was shot behind my house, by an illegal, because he wouldn't give up some of his beer? Is he not a victim of a system that allows these people into this country illegally to committ more crimes?

    Me.

New Mexico is hardly a $#@! state. Gorgeous. Life is what you make it.

Don't externalize the guilt you feel over your own failings and scapegoat the immigrants for it though, that's just lame.

You don't know anything about me and my "failings", so please don't assume anything. I have personally been quite successful growing up in NM and hate to see this state trashed because we allow people to break the law. And yes, NM is beautiful, but we are also one of the poorest states in the nation. And a huge factor in that is the illegal immigration.

When you paint entire "demographics" with such a broad brush, you kinda open yourself up to it. Fair warning.

I'm sure you're just fine in real life, btw.

Even if these people were nice, quiet neighbors they still need to be escorted back to their country until they decide they want to follow the rules. If I broke the law, I would be arrested and have to pay the consequences. If I didn't pay my taxes, they would happily take my possessions. So, is it ok for these people to get away with such things?

And it just doesn't go for one demographic, it goes for all. If the illegals are Asian, Spanish, Italian, French, etc. they need to do things the right way.
