“The spirits of darkness are now among us. We have to be on guard so that we may realize what is happening when we encounter them and gain a real idea of where they are to be found. The most dangerous thing you can do in the immediate future will be to give yourself up unconsciously to the influences which are definitely present.” ~ Rudolf Steiner

I always liked this band. Saw them live too. But my best memory is making out, for the first time, with my girlfriend in her parents basement. 16 years old and Lucky Man was playing on the radio. Funny the moments in time you always remember.

A divine voice and hugely influential. He could take anything Keith threw at him musically and put his own imprint on rock music. The riff that he and Ian McDonald came up with for King Crimson's 21st Century Schizoid Man launched power chord heavy metal. But he was also a quintessential writer of dreamy ballads.

I hate to be a wet towel but this is the only band I walked out on after paying for the tickets. Completely not impressed. That said, RIP.

They had a tendency to polarize.

I liked their studio stuff. But live they came off as effete snobs. I walked out.

If anything, that's an understatement. But in my view they were breaking new ground, both musically and with the flamboyant showmanship.

Yeah, that's a great one. Writer of the song, Peter Sinfield, said of the song, "Oh. Just one more thing. Some dimwit has written ‘a piece’ on Wikipedia claiming the song Ho! Ho! Ho! is about the commercialism of Xmas. I almost wish it were the irony would be a hoot, but its not. It is in general about loss of innocence and in particular it pictures the last real happy christmas I spent in 1950 with my mother, our house keeping ex high wire walker Maria & a candle of hairdressers. PjS 2009."
