Suicide rates are up 30 percent since 1999, CDC says

Suicide rates are up by 30 percent across the nation since 1999, federal health officials reported Thursday.

And only about half the people who died by suicide had a known mental health condition, even though depression had been thought to be the major cause of suicide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

While many cases of mental illness may have been diagnosed, the CDC also noted that relationship stress, financial troubles and substance abuse were contributing to the trends.

“From 1999 to 2015, suicide rates increased among both sexes, all racial/ethnic groups, and all urbanization levels,” the CDC researchers wrote in their report.

The suicide of fashion designer Kate Spade, who died this week at age 55, and the death of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain , are capturing headlines and making people wonder if certain groups, such as middle-aged men and women, may be more at risk. They are.

"Middle-aged adults had the largest number of suicides and a particularly high increase in suicide rates. These findings are disturbing," said CDC principal deputy director Dr. Anne Schuchat.

But the CDC team found almost no group is exempt from the rise in suicide rates, except people over age 75.

Nearly 45,000 people died by suicide in 2016, the CDC team found.

“What we tried to do in this study was look at the state level at trends over time,” Schuchat said.

“Unfortunately, the suicide rates went up more than 30 percent in half of the states.”

I thought everything was awesome? Well, if everything is so awesome, then why are these rates skyrocketing to pretty much epidemic levels? Is it drugs? Is it the psychological trauma that comes from Education? Perhaps its the Propaganda coming from the MSM making everyone feel at risk? Maybe when your neighbors call the cops on you for letting your child play at a park? Is it fear of war or getting nuked? Maybe because the US has 5% of the worlds population and consumes 80% of the prescription drugs? Maybe the 102 million Working Age people that dont have jobs and cant make ends meat? Maybe it is Discrimination for both whatever religion a person might be vs Sexual Orientation? Maybe its the Emotional Dependency that is pushed so hard by so many other people? Maybe people have become aware that they have been set up to fail at every step of their lives? Maybe its the cost of Health Insurance for a family of 4 averaging $28,166 per year? Maybe its Fake News? Maybe when the cost to fill one prescription for just one drug in Canada that costs $40 bucks costs $40,000 bucks in the US? Maybe people feel guilty when they know the work they do just $#@!s people out of everything? Maybe its the victims of getting $#@!ed? Maybe it is Cell Phone Addiction? Maybe its too many / not enough vaccines? Maybe its the food? Maybe its the Gut Bacteria? Maybe its a Lack of Vitamin D3? Maybe it isnt just one of these things, but they are all contributing factors?

What is causing this rate to go up? What has caused our Life Expectancy in the US to go down?

I dont get it. When I say that the average cost of Health Insurance exceeds what I made in an entire year, I want "Free" stuff and that makes me a Liberal? Way to try to shut down a conversation by throwing a LABEL at me.

Here is the thing. We DO have a major problem with Health Care in this country. Your life has been ruined as a result. And, youre blaming me because I didnt put money into the system. Money I simply do not have. Neither do you. Im not blaming you for what happened. And the only way to fix this is to start asking questions that provide answers that work for both of us, not one or the other.

The problem I think we have is that in govt, they are asking the wrong questions. Govt asks "how do we pay this enormous bill" instead of asking "why are costs so high". I am NOT saying "make it free", because in a Free Market, the real interference is from Govt who "makes it free" and no business can compete with Free, which murders Free Market. I will agree, someone always has to pay for Free, and having Govt involved in anything makes a problem worse than the original problem itself.

What I AM trying to suggest is that the price of Health Care, not Insurance, is unaffordable and unrealistic. I think the question we need to ask is why the cost is so high. Why is the cost of a single Aspirin in a hospital about $100 bucks when you get it from any normal store its about 10 cents. The people that do not pay any bills at all do contribute. But so does Govt Interference. Govt allowance of a Drug Manufacturer to buy out its competition and charge literally $40k to fill one prescription because they have exploited Govt to eliminate the competition. That money did NOT go to research and development. That money went in the pockets of the company owners. So am I saying Govt should get involved there? No. All Govt will do is make the problem WORSE, not better. Get Govt out of it. No one will pay that bill. If people paid for Health Care out of pocket because it was affordable, companies that make these $40k pills go out of business because of Free Market.

So I really dont get why you attack me. I get you are in a world of hurt. Ive been there too. My parents went bankrupt and had scars on their credit history when my father was denied insurance (prior to law changes), had a heart attack that night, which the total cost of treatment was about $120,000 bucks. When they looked at the bill and saw literal charges for $100 bucks for a single aspirin, and a $15,000 bill for an $#@! with some letters behind his name to come in and squeeze his big toe and leave, there was no incentive for us to pay into a system that ruined us. My story isnt unique. Yours isnt either. Now we are both still suffering the costs of Govt Interference in Health Care and destruction of our financial futures. Why? Because "free" destroys everyone.

In order to maintain thread relevancy, this is one of many reasons why our suicide rates continue to go up. People who fall into our situation become trapped, and we realize there is no hope, only more traps that we are headed for and our destination is unavoidable.

Liberalism = Socialism, which I think we both know damn good and well it is the Great Lie where everyone tries to live at the expense of everyone else. Yet, when I try to advocate FOR truly Free Market solutions which would have put socially destructive companies, including drug manufacturers, insurance companies, and health care providers out of business if they did not make their practices affordable to their client base, Im suddenly a Liberal Socialist who wants free stuff. I dont want free stuff. I dont want you to pay for anything I do. I just want to have the opportunity to pay my own way, which should allow everyone else to pay their own way as well, theoretically in a balanced system, which we definitely do not have, and has ruined us both, in multiple ways, and more than once.

Isn't one of the issues that law was changed under Reagan to stop people from being turned away at Emergency Rooms if they couldn't pay? It just became a mandate without funding or part of running a hospital.

In a lot of ways for a lot of people, I think this created Emergency Room based Health Care. I think even today many Republicans insist people will be taken care off because of this mandate.

What if Conservatives are more often the ones creating Free Stuff? At least the Liberals usually sound like they want their plans paid for.
