Iraq's Parliament votes to expel U.S. military

Associated Press -Sunday, January 5, 2020

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Parliament called for the expulsion of U.S. troops from the country Sunday in reaction to the American drone attack that killed a top Iranian general, raising the prospect of a withdrawal that could allow a resurgence by Islamic State extremists.

Lawmakers approved a resolution asking the Iraqi government to end the agreement under which Washington sent forces more than four years ago to help in the fight against ISIS.

    Expel!!

But we all know Trump will ignore them just like he ignored NATO allies before deciding to strike. The man is out of control and is miscalculating.

Good! We should have never been in Iraq!

Resolution is an advisory only but reflects Iraq's frustrations with the US actions in their country.

Didn't Obama promise to leave Iraq? This mess wouldn't have happened if he fulfilled his campaign promises.

    Don't kid yourself.

There is no resolution, order, law, decree, demand, plea, or SWLOD that the US will determine to be legitimate or binding.

Yep, I knew it. Trump is finally getting us out of Iraq.

He did significantly reduce forces in Iraq- unfortunately that created the space for ISIS to surge in power.

He promised to bring them ALL home. At least that's what he told his supporters. We wouldn't be in this mess if he followed through.

Too bad the Deep State isn't going to listen to Iraq's Parliament.

They will be chased out by militia's if necessary. It's going to get very messy...

Nope. ISIS would rule Iraq and have their own caliphate. (Actually Trump may still be after Iran even if the US had left Iraq).

    Lol

America’s failure from invading Iraq is now complete. Getting kicked out by the government we installed as they make it clear they hate us was one of the few remaining achievements America had yet to unlock in Iraq.

To Republicans, the invasion was still a good move though for reasons.

Not really. Syria relies on Russian military and Iraq relies on the US. Their own forces aren't that effective.

So once the US is expelled from Iraq what will happen?

Syrian civil war but without the aid of the Russians.

That doesn't make much sense, Zippy... The Russians are allied to Syria and will continue to support them. Iraqi army will have to step up and fight ISIS without the aid of the US which should have been happening in the first place. Let them kill each other, who cares.

Exactly. There won't be a dominant force like Russia so it will be more chaotic in Iraq if the US pulls everybody out. Syria- bad as it is- is relatively stable due to Russian help.

Iran was also helping to defeat ISIS. The general Trump blew up was credited with many victories.

Hope you're not suggesting Trump is not the final decider but a puppet of Deep State, that would greatly harm alpha image.

They don't want the US to drag their country into a $#@!hole death spiral. I don't blame them.

Perhaps this will be a turning point in our foreign policy as countries the world over are going to be reluctant to have a US presence there. Brings into focus Asia as well, will Japan demand we leave? South Korea?
