Should you turn in person for leaving pet in cold?

Would you turn in someone if you know it is very cold outside and the person does not bring pet indoors?

No. But, that pet might somehow make it on to my property, trespassing and such, and become my property instead of my neighbors.

That's what I was thinking, but the jerks would probably go get another one so they
    can let it suffer.

We had a thread about this a while back, most people concluded that you could offer to give them blankets etc. for the animal but that getting government involved was a bad idea.

If the cops are called someone (including the pet) might end up dead.

I do not understand why people do not form bonds with their neighbors. It is amazing what can happen when someone is acting contrary to normal practice within a neighborhood when neighbors, collectively (Oh, my, that terrible, terrible, word), come together and confront that errant neighbor. And when I use the word 'confront' I don't mean issuing ultimatums, etc. Just taking a concerted effort to get a point across that those in the neighborhood would like errant behavior changed and if they could help to change it. It doesn't take an HOA. There was an instance locally wherein an owner of horses had fallen on hard times. Couldn't feed the horses. They were eating bark off trees. All it took was a few concerned neighbors to talk with this horse owner and then come together to provide feed while the individual got things sorted out.

Yes , that would be great.
I could see even sending a kid over there (dogs house) , '' hey mister, would you mind if I take
your dog to our house when its freezing out? ''
But yea, I hear ya, doesn't have to be a combatant attitude.
I would sure hate to see a horse having to eat trees like that.
I lived on a Hay Farm, the price of hay went up like 4 times the regular price, big shortage,
people had trouble feeding their animals, very sad.

    Was it that thread?

    NO.
    What kind of pet?

Some dogs actually love extremely cold weather.. and suffer indoors.

"Scooter" was born to a Feral mother that lived on my farm.. a tiny short haired cat..

She had shelter,, but preferred outdoors to the house. (in sub zero weather)

So I would suggest ,, asking the animal.

I manage to have a good relationsbip with my neigbbors, not being an $#@! or a busybody goes a long way towards keeping the peace. Went off on one about his dog crapping in my yard but no grudges held on either side.

I heard local news saying see something say something. I would not turn in anyone. The funny thing is if something happens to your pet and it is someone elses fault, I think they treat that as a civil issue for loss of property. Leave your pet outside when cold and receive criminal charges.

yeah, about the only thing I like about living in my area is that my neighborhood is really tight knit. we have an annual block party, many of the families are all members at our swim club and see each other daily during the summer and events during the winter. many of them are families where the kids moved back into the neighborhood as adults with of their own kids. I know every neighbor who's house I can see from here by name and know what they do.

Same here. I would just knock on their door and ask if the animal is okay or if the owners need help.

Has anyone noticed that people who leave pets out in the cold get in more trouble than the woman who calls her son Luna and forces him to use the girls’ restroom at school?

A few hours ago, I was at the ocean. It’s mildly cold (50?), cloudy and raining. There were people surfing, and a lot of people along the shore. A couple near me had a small terrier, it had been in the water. It was shivering uncontrollably. Dogs tend to do that though. I had no urge to call the Police, but I did consider the (hippie) couple to be morons. They may have been tourists from Seattle, so maybe that was their excuse. But if my dog is shivering and wet like that, I at least dry it off and put it in the car.

Of course this is trivial compared to real cold.

No. Kill the owner and abscond with the pet in question. World -> Better Place.

The abuse in those pictures should not be tolerated. Chaining dogs with chains. Making them pull sleds. Animal cruelty for sure! Lock them up! Euthanize the animals!

Are they planning to eat the dogs after they freeze to death? Or are they just doing it for fun?
