He better not apologize or else he'll look weak. Imagine if Trump was in this situation. He would have doubled down on that statement. Honestly all republicans have to do is run their campaigns like Trump and you're almost guaranteed to win 99% of all elections.

If he is starting out with a gaffe like that which is so easy to avoid, he's probably throwing the election.

Agreed. Except the only reason it was stupid is everyone knows the press will go this low to say someone is a racist. You simply can't use countless normal words anymore if you are a public figure without getting slammed like this.

    Let me write his rebuttal....

"My opponent is apeing the characteristics of the fake news media by labeling me a racist. This is patently absurd. All I did was call a spade a spade. Frankly labelling me a racist is like a teapot calling a kettle "black." The racist labeling is nothing but a boogieman meant to scare away voters. And this tactic has been going on longer than a coon's age. I've got a niggling suspicion that it is a lock step socialist move to disenfranchise conservative voters. "

I don't care any more and I think a lot of others are at that point. Most white people I know practically bend over backwards to be sensitive to these issues. And yet my progressive friends keep posting crap or telling me crap that deep inside I am evil, racist, privileged, etc. People are sick of it. A person's carreer should not end because they innocently used a COMMON colloquialism. That's insane. No hyperbole, it is insane. It's why that jackassTrump won. I think if Desantos stays tough, it will play to his advantage. Infact you may see people purposely pushing the envelope to send progressives nuts.

The pendulum reached one Apex and is starting to swing back to sanity. Pendulums tend not to stay at sanity but sway to the other insanity. However, it is progressive idiots who cry racist (wolf) who are the ones who will inadvertantly push the pendulum to the far right.

I think politicians should be careful because too many swing voters are influenced by the MSM but if they happen to accidentally say something like this they shouldn't ever apologize, they should insist that they meant nothing racist and will not apologize.

    .
That may have worked in the last 50 years, but I think 2016 was a turning point. A lot of people realized the insanity of ruining someone's carreer over something like this. It was a common colloquialism. This could happen to anyone.

DeSantis, appearing on Sean Hannity’s show Wednesday night, said his “monkey this up” comment “has zero to do with race. It has everything to do with whether we want Florida to continue to go in a good direction, building off the success, or do we want to turn to left wing socialist policies which will absolutely devastate our state?”

Equating a pretty good Republican to a guy endorsed by Bernie Sanders is absurd.

Are the National Socialists actually socialists or just nice or nasty Nazis?
Some actual Socialists are not very democratic but they also are not full
communists. At times the radical LEFT sounds sorta like the radical right.

Bernie is a Socialist but he thinks like a democrat.
No, Ron DeSantis is no Socialist but he is a Republican.
He also is an average and ordinary politician on the hustle.
We see this all being said to be a "first" if his honorable
opponent pulls off a big win in the danglin chad state.
