Ford CEO Folds? Trump Confirms Carmaker Won't Move Production To Mexico

Just hours after Ford CEO complained of the "huge impact" of Donald Trump's proposed trade plans, following the company's plan to move a substantial portion of its passenger-car production to Mexico from a factory in Michigan, Donald Trump tweeted “Just got a call from my friend Bill Ford, Chairman of Ford, who advised me that he will be keeping the Lincoln plant in Kentucky -- no Mexico," seemingly winning his first 'america-first' victory.

I thought only small car production was moving to Mexico.

They've put Millions into Globalism for decades. Stuffed the HRC coffers betting on the come.
    Even stuffing the Soros/BLM coffers..
    they bet. They lost.
They're not on 'our' side and haven't been for a LONG, LONG time... just like Congress. Weasels all.

It is quite clear, at this point, that Trump's election victory
was almost entirely due to support he received
from unemployed auto workers in PA, OH, MI and WI,
many of whom suffered the devastating consequences of their jobs being exported to Mexico.
During the campaigning cycle, many questioned Trump's decision
to repeatedly get on stage and blast auto executives
for shipping jobs out of the US but, in hindsight,
    clearly it worked very well.
Ford CEO Blasts "Huge Impact" Of Automotive Import Tariffs

    'SHUTTER NO MORE'
    And while most auto executives
probably took some comfort from Hillary's "lead" in the polls heading into election day,
they're now terrified that Trump will follow through
on a pledge to impose a 35% tariff on imported vehicles.
With capital investments already made in foreign countries
    and U.S. capacity shuttered,
there is little that domestic auto OEMs can do in the short-term
    to offset such massive penalties.
    (Deconstruting decades long International Facism
    one CEO at a time.
If you like your out-sourcing... you can keep your out-sourcing..
    for a 35% import premium. )

True.. but should the bully pulpit 'feed' any anti FORD momentum..
a spin off 'boycott' wouldn't make the 'small car' distinction..
FORD shareholders would simply get hit.

'They' are all used to fighting 'dirty' and using the MSM to win the 'narrative'.
Trump fights dirty. He grabs the narrative.
He knows how and can do SERIOUS damage w/o needing the MSM.
Pretty amazing when you think about it.
He's now MORE powerful w/ the bully pulpit (and twitter hahaha)

All 'opponents'... institutions or people.. are going to think twice.
Calling Bill Ford a 'Friend' (now) is simply adding/building future 'victories'
    and momentum.
Going to be fun to watch the 'lickers' shifting boots.

    ya.. already read it.
My point is... he 'stole' the narrative ANYWAY... he fights 'dirty'
    just like them.

It's ok. People have too much money these days. They can pony up a little more for a car.

Correct, because they're losing money on small cars by making them in the states.

Also, all the parts that are used to assemble those cars in Kentucky are produced in Mexico.

Hope he also rolls back costly regulation and devaluation of the dollar otherwise Ford won't be cost competive.

They'd prefer to not make so many small cars. They have to produce a certain number to keep their overall emissions rate below a certain level. They sell them at a loss to the people who buy fleets and make up the difference on the trucks and SUVs that people actually want.

In a statement on Thursday night, following Trump's tweet, the company said it had told Trump it would cancel a plan to shift production of a single model — the MKC — from Kentucky to Mexico.

    This!

There is so much toimfuckery in the car business between CAFE standards, emissions and saaaaafety regulations that there is nothing close to free market anymore.

Maybe if people start to have to pay for all this nonsense, maybe they'll re-think whether any of it is worth it.

Well, I'd like to see a one-two punch. Personally I think it'd be a great time for Trump to reward them by reigning in the EPA. Or shutting it down entirely.

No kidding. I'd rather buy an Expodition XL or a Flex but I can't afford them. My second choice would be a tiny but reliable 4 seater that cost $4000 but not allowed to have those here.

Their profit margins are lower on those cars, so of course they don't want to sell them. But don't worry; protectionism is coming to increase those profit margins by taxing the furren cars.

Yeah, that's what the liberals said when they went bankrupt. "If they sold small cars that people want instead of SUVs they would not be bankrupt!" Which makes no sense but that's liberal economic thought for ya.

    1. They sell millions of tiny cars in other nations where they're affordable.
    2. They do sell them here, just in far greater number numbers than true demand dictates because the emission mandates skew the market.

<Shrugs> For me, tariffs are preferable to income taxes.

I wouldn't mind owning a Hilux again. But we can't have those here... we can only buy those for terrorists rebels overseas.
