    Enhanced intimidation

Trump was afraid that the neocons that he hired would take his advise and go much tougher on him than waterboarding, so bombs away.

“You expect an explanation?! Don’t be so unamerican. You only get to discuss the targets and the level of murder - to question their right to do so is just traitorous. They know so much more than we do. “

This and the monsterbomb and the airfield bombing create the most interesting illusion that we're having little 5 minute wars. It's almost as if war isn't going on the rest of the time.

Assessment: Out With a Whimper: Trump Blinks, Delivers Limited Strikes

Mattis: "This is a one time shot"

    • These weren't the sweeping strikes Trump wanted early on. Clearly Russian warnings were taken seriously
    • Every indication the strikes were heavily "deconflicted" with the Russians beforehand

120 cruise missiles have been fired at three sites and it's over. ... the sweeping, sustained strikes Trump wanted initially did not happen. ... the Russian warning they would fire back if put at risk was taken seriously. ...

Trump carried out his promise he would attack Syria but kept his strike limited enough that Russians weren't at risk and the damage to the Syrian war effort will be practically nil.

Also there are indications to believe the strikes were heavily "de-conflicted" with the Russians ... unlike in 2017 the Pentagon limited itself to sites where Russian troops wouldn't be present ... It isn't clear if any military base was hit, it seems not. ...

Russian air defenses were not involved in repelling the attack. ... that is as much as a confirmation that there was some kind of American-Russian understanding in place for the rules of the strike beforehand. ... Perhaps the Americans assured the Russians no military bases would be hit and they would be coming for only a few sites ...

Now that the (former?) reality TV star has saved face, arranged for some funerals and weeping mothers in a far-away land he is utterly ignorant of and deluded about, the Syrians are now free again to bury their dead and go back to the business of putting their nation back together -- until the next western media hysteria over a staged ... UK-funded shysters at Al-Qaeda Productions.

This comment sums it up: "US fired missiles into the equivalent of an empty parking lot, declare victory and go home with tail between legs. Russia won the fight without firing a single bullet exactly as Sun Tzu said 'The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.' Its stern warning scared away the US. The biggest loser ?----> Israel. It wants a prolonged real war to drive out the Russians. Trump got pushed but reacted half heartedly. So now they are back to square one."

    Report at Guardian:

Russian defenses were not involved. Washington fired between 103 and 105 missiles. Syrian air defenses shot down 71 of the missiles. Syrian air defenses consists of old Soviet era systems S-125, S-200, Buk and a short range pantsir.

Result is Russia may now supply Syria with S-300s and pantsirs.

The Pentagon says none of the missiles filed by the U.S. and its allies was deflected by Syrian air defenses, rebutting claims by the Russian and Syrian governments.

Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, the director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, says: "None of our aircraft or missiles involved in this operation were successfully engaged by Syrian air defenses." He says there also is no indication that Russian air defense systems were employed early Saturday in Syria.

The Russian military had previously said Syria's Soviet-made air defense systems downed 71 out of 103 cruise missiles launched by the United States and its allies.

McKenzie says 105 weapons were launched against three targets in Syria.

Characterizing the strike as a success, McKenzie says, "As of right now we're not aware of any civilian casualties."

Well, it's difficult to know he truth in all these matters, but so far as my old eyes can tell, Trump has $#@!ed up this time and in a big way.

Question now is how will he proceed. If he is genuine, he will repair. Otherwise, he will maintain as he has chosen and will prove himself as I feared he likely would.

If he proves just another one of Themme, then we the people are lost and will find no salvation without arms. Anyone thinking this will be fixed with politics is fooling themselves. America is gone. Time is here.

I'm going to the Capitol, armed, to be counted.

What will the rest of you do?

In that case, I'll hold you just as responsible as those on that ship who had nothing to do with the ultimate pushing of the buttons that sent those missiles on their mission.

It's not like the Radiomen, Cooks, Boiler Technicians... etc. could have stopped those who pushed those buttons. You are just as guilty as they are, because you helped pay for those missiles.
