6 Natural Ibuprofen Alternatives Backed by Clinical Research

    By: Sayer Ji

With the public's growing awareness of the deadly side effects associated with the regular use of synthetic painkillers like ibuprofen, the need for natural, evidence-based alternatives has never been greater.

People generally think that over-the-counter drugs are safer than physician-prescribed ones. Unfortunately that does not hold true for drugs like ibuprofen, consumed at a rate of billions of doses, annually, and responsible for thousands of cardiovascular disease-related deaths each year.

Did you know that Merck's blockbuster drug Vioxx caused more than 27,000 deaths and heart attacks between 1999 and 2003? In fact, it was the FDA's own drug safety researcher, David Graham, who blew the whistle on the agency in 2004 at a Congressional hearing, estimating that over 60,000 Americans died as a result of its use, and the FDA's inaction around their well-known side effects.

What does this have to do with ibuprofen? Researchers have known that ibuprofen is at least as dangerous as Vioxx for at least six years. But millions continue to take this drug, daily, without receiving adequate warning, while heart disease and cardiac mortality statistics continue to expand unabated.

Naproxen made my skin turn purple if I bumped into a pillow, I knew something was
not right, stopped taking it, no more purple.

That's crazy--was it like your blood was pooling up in these places like a bruise?

    I guess , I'm told it's a common side effect with nsaid's , I was close to finishing off
my first 30 or 40 ct , when I noticed it.
Out of that 20 to 30 day period I had one good day, the rest of the time it really wasn't much
help anyway, I just thought I'd give it a shot.
I think I was told it tends to thin the blood, but I'm not positive.
However the more serious side effects are down the road, I knew that much, so
it wasn't too hard to make the decision to give it up.

Yeah I had issues with sciatica these last couple of months--I could not lay down flat, the pain was excruciating. I tried Ibuprofen and it helped a little, but like you, I know the long term effects as well and decided to get away from it. So I started taking Turmeric, I have used Arnica on the nerve area and I get more relief. I also use magnesium spray right before bed to help me lay flat.

I had sciatica about 10 years ago, both sides, I don't think it was at the same time, but its rare
I believe to have both sides period.
I would be out on a walk and the leg would just give out for a second with no warning.
I don't remember what or how I got cured, I think it went away .
A found a pair of goofy chiropractors on youtube by the way, they have some tips on
identifying and 'fixing' sciatica which is similar to other nerve issues.
    Glad you got some relief.
A lot of this type of ailment is caused by imbalance, like my bursitis* (self diagnosed)
bursitis is and impingement or 'pinching' , the 'whatever' they call the parts are not
centered and it shoves the nerves into a tight spot which causes the pain and immobility.
I found some exercises to get it re aligned and it has helped best I can tell.
But then bursitis was the least of my phy troubles spilling over from last year, and I'm grateful to be
in pretty good shape today, considering. lol
    EDIT: *Bursitis in shoulder.

    Oh yea, how I cured my sciatica, well I don't recommend this cause its anecdotal , not a study;
A friend told me it was from not walking enough or, that walking more would cure it.
I thought he was full of it, oddly enough a job I took soon after included a good 10 miles
a day at a Casino, indoors outdoors , up top side of roofs, I mean it was pretty brutal, but
the bursitis disappeared during that time. Coincidence ?...:shrugs:

Thanks. I am can definitely say when I walk more it feels better. However, the minute I want to go to bed the only thing I can do is lay in fetal position the whole night. That's the insufferable part.

These are the goofy knuckleheads I was talking about, I believe that some of what they teach is
    helpful.
When I look at these clips, I always look at the side bar, also , I'll retype my query having learned
a little bit from a clip, like terms, then a new search may focus more clearly or lead me to
    some additional useful info.

I had a shoulder that was a mess . Very painful . I figured it was in bad shape and just lived with it for years because I figured if I let anyone look at it they would want to do some kind of surgery . i had my MD x ray it twice in two or three years . He finally suggested I go see this physical therapy guy a couple counties over . I did and it helped a lot . About a yr later it started again some so I went back , again it helped . Probably reduced the pain by 90 percent and increased the mobility of that shoulder too . I was happily surprised . He told me " what do you have to lose " ? which pretty well decided it for me . I mean I knew it was going to hurt to let someone work on it but it hurt every day anyway . Probably the worst was actually stretching it out for the x ray for my Doc which made me feel like i was going to puke . In hindsight I wish I had done something about it sooner . It still gives me a little trouble a couple times a month but then I just put a tens unit on it . The way he explained it was it basically had a lot of small tears in it that had scarred over but not healed . What he did was break it all loose so it did heal .
    Do something Danke

Thanks! That sounds easy enough, I am going to try it.

Best of luck Donnay, I understand pain, you're not alone. If it doesn't help after a couple weeks
or even sooner, notice that little blurb they have on the screen, ''if plan A doesn't work, there are 25 other
    letters'' ,,,,,,,,,lol'
    Take Care.
