Internet of Things (IoT) in your home

Once you can record and know people's detailed patterns of behavior, you can control them.....

    http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2017/...tml#more-66181

Why do you think there are so many buckets of cash pouring into the IoT hope-to-be-a-market? The Big Corporations don’t expect to make a big profit on the devices themselves, oh no. News flash: the Big Money in IoT is in Big Data. As in, Big Data about everything those sensors are learning about you and your nasty habits that you hide from your neighbors.

The value of Big Data, after all, aren’t the data themselves. “Fred’s car told Fred’s thermostat to turn on Fred’s hot tub” doesn’t interest anybody but Fred and perhaps his hot date (if he’s lucky). The value in Big Data, you see, are in the patterns. What shows you watch. What apps you use. Which ads influence your buying behavior. The more IoT you have, the more Big Data they collect, and the more Big Data they collect, the more they know about how you behave. And once they know how you behave, they know how to control how you behave.
    More...... (2013)

The people who design, develop this stuff don't do it for control, they do it to learn things about human behavior as a whole (and by extension, themselves) that may improve their quality of life. We've always been doing this kind of stuff, ever since someone learned how to light a fire.

That's why development of these things will continue no matter what- it's part of what makes us tick. Somewhere along the way, money enters the picture and other motivations are introduced, like selling the technology or setting up control systems. We've always been doing this kind of stuff, too, ever since someone burned down another's house.
“I don’t think that there will be any curtailing of Donald Trump as president,” he said. "He controls the media, he controls the sentiment [and] he controls everybody. He’s the one who will resort to executive orders more so than [President] Obama ever used them." - Ron Paul

Ummm, I'm quite sure there has never been a real time surveillance network that could monitor every single person on the face of the earth in prior earth history.

There have always been technologies just as culturally profound.

Whose quality of life? Mine? Or theirs?

They make money by selling that behavioral data, and the people buying that data now have a financial incentive to find something they can subjectively interpret as "wrong" in order to manipulate your behavior, charge you more, and give you less product / service. IE, what @Mach quoted: "Control".

Big money and Big Pharma are behind Big Data.
    1776 > 1984

The FAILURE of the United States Government to operate and maintain an
Honest Money System , which frees the ordinary man from the clutches of the money manipulators, is the single largest contributing factor to the World's current Economic Crisis.

The Elimination of Privacy is the Architecture of Genocide

Belief, Money, and Violence are the three ways all people are controlled

These are different groups of people. Something can be developed for its upside, but for every upside there is a downside that someone else can use to exploit.

We've had control systems in the way you describe for thousands of years. The oldest one, religion, is still around today.

Religion has been taken over by the money. Do we still need more control?
