A society that is not prepared to thwart the attacks of such asocial and short-sighted aggressors is helpless.

This part had caught my eye because this means to me a small country... google brought me back Vatican City... should have 100% of their people in service of defense in order to best safeguard it from the US, for example. I suspect this would be a reasoning for world governance, and that Vatican City should swear fealty to its larger. But what about a case where the larger is much less liberal than the current government? Should they subject their subjects to a less liberal government just because of the possibility that that government may one day subjugate them by force? Force their subjects into service to best avoid the possible subjugation?

And again I'd debate his whole thesis, that the presence or absence of a government is what constitutes preparedness in thwarting attacks. He said nothing about why free-market defense would not work, he was dismissive of the anarchists instead of addressing their points.
