Not that I am aware of, I have been reading house bills all day and have not had a chance to do much else.

When I called Toomey's office I simply told them I wanted Toomey to Stand with Rand to End the Afghan War. I also told his office that if Toomey writes or co-sponsors ANY gun legislation that I would make it known and NOT vote for him next time around. Toomey is a snake.

A plan to end Afghanistan War: Declare victory and give $2,500 bonuses to vets

WASHINGTON — Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is proposing giving all Iraq and Afghanistan veterans a one-time $2,500 payout and declaring victory in Afghanistan in what he is billing a cost-saving move for America.

“It’s important to know when it’s time to declare victory and leave a war,” the Republican said in a Facebook video posted Tuesday morning. “I think that time is long past.”

Paul, a Republican lawmaker known for his libertarian views and tense relationship with party leadership, said the payout to veterans would cost taxpayers more than $7 billion, but it would also be “an immediate savings of 83 percent when compared to the current yearly cost of nation building.”

Pentagon estimates put the total costs of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001 at around $6 trillion. Paul said ongoing overseas missions in the global war on terror total more than $50 billion annually.

“We don’t need to be wasting that $50 billion, and there is no doubt much of it is wasted,” he said. “When are they (the Afghanistan government) going to pay for their own stuff? Why does Uncle Sam have to be Uncle Sap and pay for everything?”
“It’s time to declare our mission over and the war won,” he said. “It’s time to build here and not there.”
True you would save on "hazardous duty" pay- unless they went to another conflict zone like Iraq. There would be large one- time costs of moving everything you want out of the country. What exactly has been "won"?

On Tuesday, the Kentucky Republican announced his intent to introduce new legislation this week "to end a war that should have ended long ago" in a video message published to his Facebook page.

"I supported going to war in Afghanistan in 2001, attacking those who harbored the 9/11 terrorists or helped to organize the attack ... and going after al-Qaeda," Paul said. "But we are many, many years past that mission. We have turned to nation-building at the cost of more than $50 billion spent a year in Afghanistan."

"It's important when to know to declare victory and leave a war," he added. "I think that time is long past, but I think we can all agree that time has come."

And that's exactly what Paul's new legislation, titled the AFGHAN Service Act, would do: declare "victory" in Afghanistan. After all, Paul says, "Osama bin Laden was killed eight years ago ... [ and Pentagon officials] say al-Qaeda is nearly wiped out."
"Declare victory" in Afghanistan brings this image to mind:

If you keep them in the military, they are still getting paid. Even if they are in the US. Only "hazard pay" bonuses may be lower. Trump wants even more money for the military than the most recent budget allowed so are we saving any money?

Yes, there are lots of ways that it costs extra to deploy them abroad.

So is anybody suggesting cutting the defense budget? I am not hearing anybody. That means that taxpayers will save nothing.

It will be easier to suggest that when they have been brought home and people like you can't scream that the cuts will leave the troops high and dry without the money they need.
