If that is true then why care about the tariffs?

Tariffs were not just on Chinese steel. They were applied to all steel (and aluminum) imports though Mexico and Canada recently got a reprieve. Prices for steel shot up to the highest in the world which hurts US companies which make things from steel and aluminum. And there are tariffs against $hundreds of millions of goods from China (and other countries).

Then world steel production which China was dumping into was and is a threat to the American steel supply.

If it was two percent of our imported steel, was it a threat to US steel supply? Or just repeating cliches again?

(US actually was using a lot of recycled steel in addition to raw production which was making up for the reduced production of raw steel).

Are we talking about just China again?
Does Chinese dumping affect the world market and therefore our other sources of steel?
