House Democrats planning to hold hearings regarding Trump's role in hush-money payments: report

    By Owen Daugherty - 09/02/19

House Democrats will reportedly prioritize a congressional inquiry into President Trump’s alleged role in hush-money payments to silence two women who say they had affairs with Trump before he took office.

The Washington Post reports the House Judiciary Committee, when it returns to Washington next week, plans to hold hearings and call witnesses to testify who have knowledge of the hush-money payments to ex-Playboy model Karen McDougal and adult-film star Stephanie Clifford, known by her stage name Stormy Daniels.

While a federal probe into campaign finance violations committed by Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen for his role in the hush-money payments made to the women alleging affairs is over, Democrats reportedly believe there is enough evidence to pursue an inquiry of their own.

The Post reports hearing on the matter could take place as early as October.

Cohen is currently serving a three-year prison sentence for his role in the payments to the women and other federal crimes he pleaded guilty to last year. He testified under oath earlier this year that Trump directed the payments that led to the campaign finance violations.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, told The Post that there is ample evidence against Trump.

This will backfire. Let them do it. I mean who gives a crap about this anyway? They will waste time and money on frivolous stuff. So what, he bought a hooker. She also said she's not a victim, sounds like a consensual contract between two adults.

We're being governed ruled by a geriatric Alzheimer patient/puppet whose strings are being pulled by an elitist oligarchy who believe they can manage the world... imagine the utter maniacal, sociopathic hubris!

And that's assuming it is true, lots of rich people settle out of court to avoid scandals even when the claim is a lie.

It’s Not Over: Trump Is Stalked by Investigations He Tried to Stonewall

Fall is here. Congress is back. The president isn’t out of trouble. A look at the post-Mueller probes.

With all the focus on how a largely symbolic impeachment might affect Donald Trump’s re-election prospects, numerous investigations and lawsuits concerning the president and his associates seem to have dropped off the political radar. But they are still going—and could affect the result of the next election.

Trump has done his best to stonewall many of these matters, particularly those before Congress, by litigating almost every demand for testimony and other evidence. That strategy of maximum resistance could backfire.

That’s because the string could well run out on many of Trump’s defenses in the coming months, and the investigations—and accompanying revelations—could accelerate immediately before Election Day 2020, making Trump’s misconduct a renewed focus of public attention as voters prepare to go to the polls.

Sideshow distraction is all Congress is good for these days. On second thought, that about sums up most of DC these days. One big, stupid reality tv sideshow distraction.

The people who brought you the sexual revolution and insist that someone's sex life is nobody else's business while shoving perverts up your nose.
