Daniel McCarthy’s campaign slogan is #DemandDaniel. Is the first-time candidate truly in demand or just a distraction?

The Glendale real estate agent and co-founder of a successful makeup-product company announced last week he plans to primary Republican U.S. Sen. Martha McSally.

McSally won a three-way GOP primary in 2018 against two well-known Republicans: former state lawmaker Kelli Ward and former Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

McCarthy told an interviewer he would spend “as little (of his money) as possible.” Given that McCarthy’s family business is private, there’s no way to know how much money he has.

McCarthy is a precinct committeeman. He donated more than $14,000 to President Trump and the Republican Party in 2016.

But he's launching a statewide race from scratch.

McCarthy's small social media presence attracts what was once known as the GOP’s Tea Party wing.

He has virtually no name recognition. But his family business' product, the Makeup Eraser, is a big seller.

McCarthy’s case against McSally: It’s still coming into focus. At a time when the White House is held by a Republican, McCarthy argues: “We need change now” and there is “corruption at the highest levels.”

It appears Republican Gov. Doug Ducey was going to try to talk McCarthy out of the race, but their planned meeting fell apart. McCarthy said it was over his objection to Ducey’s support for a “red flag” law to promote gun safety.

McSally’s loss to Sinema, as well as what's shaping up as a toss-up 2020 race against Democrat Mark Kelly, also rankle.

Yeah, McSally is a lost cause. But Ducey appointed her and thus anointed her as the GOP candidate. She lost to a drippy Democrat in Sinema, and now she will be up against a well-funded Democrat in Mark Kelly. Add to that the mass importation of Democrat voters from California and south of the border, and the Democrats almost have Arizona sewn up as a new Blue State.

2nd Amendment – Red Flag Laws

I want to be crystal clear on this issue. Gun-rights are vital to our freedom. As Senator, I won’t give an inch of ground. I won’t fall for their trap. No new red flag laws for Arizona, and no new red flag laws for America.

Our Founding Fathers were just as clear on this issue. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution refers to the right to keep and bear arms. They want to take away our constitutional right. Without our rights, we do not have true freedom.

Right now, radical leftists in Washington are pushing “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation Orders, which allows government agents to confiscate firearms from people who are not suspected of any crime and without due process.

The left used to tell us “nobody wants to take your guns.” Now they are making it very clear that they are coming for our guns.

Nearly everyone on the stage who is running for the Democrat nomination for President is promising a gun confiscation program, which they refer to as a “buyback.” Only decisive action to counter them will ensure that we do not lose any more ground on our right to self-defense and that’s my pledge to you.

Guaranteed to fail

Gun control laws provide an illusion of safety, without delivering results.

Of the mass shootings in America, 92% take place in “gun free zones” where law-abiding citizens are defenseless, and criminals ignore the law. Disarming law-abiding citizens is not a solution and I will not tolerate any attempts to do so.

Veterans

Arizona has been front and center for the treatment of veterans but for all the wrong reasons.

We cannot continue to treat our veterans the way that they have been by the VA Hospital in Phoenix. It is completely unacceptable to have those who sacrifice everything to defend our Republic die while on a waiting list to receive care.

I wish it were just limited to Phoenix, but these long wait times have continued to be uncovered at VA hospitals all over the country. There is no excuse for this kind of negligence. It’s going to take new leadership to change this in Washington because the status quo is complete failure.

22 American veterans commit suicide every day.

Many veterans coming home from active duty overseas speak about the struggles they face. Many say they worry about those left behind, still fighting. Some speak with regret of being thrust into combat, not knowing if the enemies are jihadists or simply farmers who want them out of their country. Many speak of the night terrors they face, the strain on their families, and the failures of our veteran healthcare system to provide anything but pills to numb their pain.

Congress has failed all of us.

The U.S. Constitution empowers Congress to declare war. Yet, few in Congress have the backbone to stand up for our soldiers. The most sacred constitutional duty is to decide where and when to send our children off to war, and Congress has effectively handed this power over to unelected bureaucrats and special interests. This is unacceptable.

When elected, I will not rest until all our troops are safely home and every promise made to them is fulfilled.

Education

It’s time for an un-ceremonial end to the Department of Education. Since its inception during the Carter Administration, it has done nothing but lower standards while increasing government control over what is taught in public schools.

Our grade school and high school students used to be among the best in the entire world, not that long ago. But now, our students lag behind many countries that we compete with in the global economy.

What’s worse is that the left has turned what were once great public schools into indoctrination centers for failed ideas like socialism. The latest dangerous trend, which we are seeing in Arizona schools is to teach young students that they should question their own gender identity and even consider switching to another gender even if their parents do not support the idea.

It’s very clear to me that we’re not going to stop the decline of our public school system until we eliminate the Department of Education.

Retired astronaut Mark Kelly (D) leads Sen. Martha McSally (R) by a narrow 3-point margin in Arizona, a state critical to Democratic chances of recapturing the Senate in the 2020 elections, according to a new poll.

A poll conducted by OH Predictive Insights shows Kelly leading McSally by a 47 percent to 44 percent margin, fueled by a substantial gender gap. Kelly, the husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D), leads among women by a 53 percent to 38 percent margin, while McSally leads among men by a smaller 51 percent to 41 percent margin.

Kelly holds a 10-point lead in Maricopa County, which contributes about 60 percent of the statewide vote. Only one statewide candidate in recent memory has won Arizona without carrying Maricopa. He leads among independent voters by a 51 percent to 37 percent margin.

McSally, meanwhile, holds a substantial 22-point advantage in the state’s rural communities. She leads Kelly among white voters by a single point, but he holds an overwhelming 58 percent to 32 percent edge among Hispanic voters, the poll shows.
