I think that was a symptom of the bigger issue problem about poor high level campaign staff and organization and lack of a solid plan at the top level.
I can't help but remember how many times I read threads where no one knew what the heck the Campaign was doing. Grassroots kinda seemed in the dark about the plans.

I really put it at the media. My parents would tell me Ron Paul hated our troops (or something equally stupid) based on what FOX News told them. I would spend an hour talking to them and they agreed Ron Paul was probably the best candidate. Then they would listen to Sean Hannity for a week and then they would tell me Ron Paul hated America and I would start over explaining his policies. This happened every weekend for a few months.
