    Monterey Pop Festival

    50 years ago some crazy musician lit his guitar on fire- and changed music forever. The Who had heard about this guy (and seen him perform in clubs in London) and did not want to follow his performance. He knew the Who were famous for smashing their instruments at the time so he wanted to do something too. He found some cigarette lighter fluid back stage. Some white chic also blew away the crowd with her blues voice. June 16- 18, 1967. Woodstock would still be two years away. First of the mega music festivals.

    Big Brother and the Holding Company
    Eric Burdon and the Animals
    Otis Redding
    the Mamas and the Papas
