Congressman Joaquin Castro accuses Kushner of orchestrating killing of Khashoggi

Early speculations based on domestic/foreign media reports and even MSM reports can be foggy, inaccurate. Best to wait till investigations are completed & findings validated by MSM:

Joaquin Castro accuses Kushner of orchestrating killing of Khashoggi

    By Owen Daugherty - 10/19/18

Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) on Friday accused senior White House adviser Jared Kushner of orchestrating the killing of Saudi-born Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.

Castro, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee, told CNN he did not have substantial evidence to support his claim, but repeatedly cited media reports on the subject.

Castro cited unspecified reporting “that Jared Kushner may have, with U.S. intelligence, delivered a hit list, an enemies list, to the crown prince, to MBS, in Saudi Arabia and that the prince may have acted on that.”

Jamal Khashoggi murder: Turkish media raises Mossad suspicions

Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who has lived in exile in the United Staes for the past year fearing retribution for his critical views on Saudi policies, entered the Saudi Arabia consulate in Istanbul on Tuesday to secure documentation for his forthcoming marriage. He has not been heard of since.

    HE DIDN'T LEAVE THE BUILDING

Since then, Turkish officials have offered conflicting accounts of his disappearance, with Ankara saying there was no evidence that he had left the diplomatic mission although Riyadh saying he exited the premises the same day.

Now rumors started to swirl as Saudi Arabia fails to convince the public over the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi. In the connection with the journalist’s possible murder, Israeli intelligence Mossad’s name started to be mentioned.

Why Are Some pro-Israel Voices Speaking Out Against Jamal Khashoggi?

Notably, the mainstream pro-Israel groups, like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and the Anti-Defamation League, were not joining in the attacks, and Israeli officials were silent as well

Two weeks after he disappeared, Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi Washington Post columnist, is getting his reputation run through a wringer, and some pro-Israel voices are joining the pile-on.
Even as gruesome allegations emerge that he was tortured, murdered and dismembered after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, some Israel supporters have joined other figures on the right in describing Khashoggi as a terrorist sympathizer and fierce opponent of Israel. Their goal appears to be to counter a portrait of Khashoggi as a Saudi reformer and free speech activist, and perhaps derail pressure building on the White House to punish Saudi Arabia for his disappearance and presumed murder.

(CNN)The US Secret Service said it is reviewing an incident in which an agent blocked a CBS News reporter on Tuesday from questioning Jared Kushner, the President's son-in-law and a senior White House advisor, about the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

In video posted to Twitter by the journalist, Errol Barnett, a US Secret Service agent physically prevented him from questioning Kushner. When Barnett explained that he was a member of the press, the agent replied, "I don't give a damn who you are. There's a time and a place."
In a statement provided to CNN, a spokesperson for the US Secret Service said the agency was "aware of the video" posted by Barnett.

‘Tell Your Boss’: Recording Is Seen to Link Saudi Crown Prince More Strongly to Khashoggi Killing
    Nov. 12, 2018

WASHINGTON — Shortly after the journalist Jamal Khashoggi was assassinated last month, a member of the kill team instructed a superior over the phone to “tell your boss,” believed to be Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, that the operatives had carried out their mission, according to three people familiar with a recording of Mr. Khashoggi’s killing collected by Turkish intelligence.

The recording, shared last month with the C.I.A. director, Gina Haspel, is seen by intelligence officials as some of the strongest evidence linking Prince Mohammed to the killing of Mr. Khashoggi, a Virginia resident and Washington Post columnist whose death prompted an international outcry.

While the prince was not mentioned by name, American intelligence officials believe “your boss” was a reference to Prince Mohammed. Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, one of 15 Saudis dispatched to Istanbul to confront Mr. Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate there, made the phone call and spoke in Arabic, the people said.

Jared Kushner advised Saudi prince on how to 'weather' Khashoggi slaying, report says

William Cummings, USA TODAY Published Dec. 9, 2018

Senators are considering multiple pieces of legislation to formally rebuke Saudi Arabia for the slaying of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Momentum is building for a resolution that would call the Saudi crown prince "complicit" in the killing. (Dec. 6) AP

    (Photo: Saul Loeb, AFP/Getty Images)

President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner has been a promoter of Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman since the early days of the administration and recently offered the prince advice on how to handle the outrage over the slaying of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, The New York Times reported Saturday.
Kushner, 37, who serves as Trump's adviser on the Middle East, has kept up informal conversations with the prince, 33, since early 2017, the Times reported, citing unnamed sources. Three former senior officials told the paper that the politically inexperienced Kushner's private chats with Mohammed could have made him "susceptible to Saudi manipulation."
Khashoggi was killed on Oct. 2 by Saudi agents at the country's consulate in Istanbul. Although the administration has played down reported evidence linking the slaying to the prince and cautioned lawmakers not to take action against Saudi Arabia in response to the killing, senators say U.S. intelligence reports clearly implicate the crown prince.

Saad Al-Faqih: Bin Salman wants to divide Yemen and honoured Khashoggi’s assassins

    August 27, 2019

Saad Al-Faqih, a prominent Saudi dissident and head of the Muslim Reform Movement, revealed that the Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman has agreed to a coup led by the UAE-backed militias against Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and the division of Yemen.
In an exclusive interview with Al Khaleej Online, Al-Faqih said that Saudi Arabia had colluded with the UAE and its militias in Yemen by stopping logistical support for the legitimate forces in Aden and withdrawing the Giants Brigade.
Al-Faqih stated: “Despite Saudi-Emirati complicity against the legitimate government, they do not agree on everything. The Saudi Kingdom wants to delay declaring a state in the south to allow for the forces of the Southern Transitional Council to survive.”
He added: “The UAE wants to represent the change as the emergence of a new state in Yemen and a complete secession. Thus, both countries have agreed to divide Yemen.”

Rep. Joaquin Castro seeks to become the next chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

    November 20, 2020

After an exhausting election season rife with dizzying electoral math and threats to democracy, the House of Representatives is gearing up for yet another round of electoral tug of war over its vacant committee chairmanships, including an election next week for House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC). After hawkish, anti-Palestinian rights stalwart Rep. Eliot Engel lost his election to a rising star progressive, the House Democratic Caucus will likely vote a mainstream hawk into this consequential position on the basis of seniority and political patronage rather than consulting the public mandate—but a coalition of progressive community and movement-based groups are insisting instead on advancing an anti-militarism agenda to put the justice visions of those impacted by the violence of U.S. foreign policy at the center of the debate.

Congressman Joaquin Castro among Lawmakers calling for action against NSO over Pegasus revelations

Four Democrats in Congress tell Biden administration that such firms ‘should be sanctioned, and if necessary, shut down’

    Tue 27 Jul 2021
Democratic lawmakers in Washington have called on the Biden administration to consider placing NSO Group on an export blacklist and said recent revelations of misuse reinforced their conviction that the “hacking-for-hire industry must be brought under control”.
The statement by four members of Congress followed reports by the Pegasus project, a collaboration of 17 media organisations including the Guardian, which investigated NSO, the Israeli company that sells its powerful surveillance software to government clients around the world.

The leak at the heart of the Pegasus project contained tens of thousands of phone numbers of individuals who are believed to have been selected as candidates for possible surveillance by clients of NSO. The numbers included those of heads of state such as the French president, Emmanuel Macron, government ministers, diplomats, activists, journalists, human rights defenders and lawyers.

It includes some people whose phones showed infection or traces of NSO’s Pegasus spyware, according to examinations of a sample of the devices by Amnesty International’s security lab.

They added that NSO had shown an “arrogant disregard for concerns that elected officials, human rights activists, journalists, and cyber-security experts have repeatedly raised”.

The statement represented a rare rebuke of an Israeli company by US members of Congress, who suggested that NSO Group should join the ranks of blacklisted companies like Huawei and Hikvision of China. Any decision to add NSO to what is known as the entities list, forcing it to comply with new export rules, would be made by the Biden administration’s commerce department.
The statement was released by four influential lawmakers: Tom Malinowski of New Jersey, Katie Porter and Anna Eshoo of California, and Joaquin Castro of Texas.
