For people with no job , no farm it was food , for the rest of the unemployed it was cash to buy things they did not produce ( like salt). That will be a problem again in a currency crisis , because most "money" that most people have will be of no value .

Wouldn't that then seem to point to stockpiling gold and silver?

Though actually I was originally thinking toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, laundry detergent, coffee, tea, light bulbs, candles, matches, etc..

Lifepo4 12 volt 100AH batteries. There will be a glut of solar panels, and wind turbines available that were once grid tied, but once the grid starts to go down, they will be useless without charge controllers and batteries, but the glut of batteries in circulation are cheap lead acids, which will be largely junk in a few years, Leaving Yuuuuuugggge demand for batteries that can last up to a decade! You will be able to set your price, Gold bars will be cheap in comparison.

And I would give you anything I have as well. I am very fortunate to be associated with someone of your presence of spirit and mind. I also feel very blessed to be a part of this community where I can be myself and not get killed for it. Let me see if I can round up those lego terrorist you admire. They are pretty well armed don't you think? Do you want the chicken too or do you already have one?

some recent barters I've made in the past 60 days

solar panel installation for gallon of fresh squeezed home grown olive oil and home smoked spicy chorizo
I got a couple bottles of rice sake as a tip for a gazebo project
Swapped out a toilet for home grown ground beef
Made some changes to a previous sign project for home grown NY strip steaks
Make some changes to a previous deck project for freshly caught saltwater porgies
barn demolition for 50% salvage rights on the oak and tin (shook hands, haven't broke ground yet)
gathered 6 cord of firewood logs with a friend w/ backhoe; I worked the chains... we split the haul 3 cord each

    join the counter-economy

'We endorse the idea of voluntarism; self-responsibility: Family, friends, and churches to solve problems, rather than saying that some monolithic government is going to make you take care of yourself and be a better person. It's a preposterous notion: It never worked, it never will. The government can't make you a better person; it can't make you follow good habits.' - Ron Paul 1988

I've got a bunch of craft supplies if anyone wants to trade. I finally realized I'm not crafty and don't care to be.

At least some people running around in a PAW will do...well...anything for a cigarette. it may be possible to vacuum pack them with oxygen eaters and make them last a long time.
