What are your thoughts on the Reconstruction Era?

The Reconstruction Era from what I understand is generally considered to be that of a disaster. What could have been some Libertarian policies that would have prevented said disaster?

Moreover, any recommended readings for this topic?

They should have let the South secede.

Was the Confederacy’s bombing of Fort Sumter the “catalyst” as to why there was ultimately a war?

Lincoln would have used something for an excuse if it hadn't happened, and his refusal to withdraw federal troops and sending reinforcements forced a response.

Had they let the south secede my home state would have had to put an army on the southern border to keep the riff raff out ( and would have ), but otherwise we would have benefitted . You might try (Ross A Webb 2015 ) Kentucky in the Reconstruction Era ( University Press of Kentucky ) , it will cover the multitude of problems for you .

The after war riff raff list got longer and would be guerillas ,democrats , former slavers , thieves , illiterates , bandits , murderers , cut throats , disgruntled confederates, former slave owners, former treasonous govt officials , lawyers or about 99 percent of the white population that were not preachers , school marms or farmers.

More like Lincoln refusing to remove troops from South Carolina. Then calling up troops to invade the first Confederate states was the catylyst for Virginia and others to get involved.
