Thread: Alt-Wrong (poem)

    Alt-Wrong (poem)

    $#@! for brains
    And a fertile mind
    Makes many imaginary
    Friends and foes
    You think you’re alt-right
    But you’ve got it alt-wrong
    Sound the Trump
    Fanfare for a fascist
    He’s a double-edged axe-head dictator
    And you are his sticks
    In the mud
    Speaking double
    And doubling down
    On incendiary dumbness
    And white-hot numbness
Burning down all your bridges to the present
While you fiddle around the edges of sanity
    And humanity
    Instead of making real investments
Blowing your brains on a casino gamble
A mind vacation road trip to serfdom
Surfing the web for a spider to save you
A grassroots cry for a top-down final solution
Crying out for that weaver of lies
To save you from your $#@! sit flit of a mind
The mind-numbing screams of the minority
    Finally called
    The silent majority
    Follow the road to serfdom
    And pay no attention
To the man behind the big beautiful wall
    Amash>Trump

But they wouldn't know an alpha-male if he bit them on the ass.

What's wrong with polygamy? I thought Willy was into polygamy.

I'm watching the star rating go up and down on this thread, lol.

I prefer rhyming poems and haiku but not bad.

Kinda sounds like something Charles Bukowski would come up with while recovering from a lobotomy.

This is the kind of thing that would make my college creative writing prof mark up the paper with "cliché" "cliché" "cliché", and hand it back to rewrite. True story, bro.

There's a guy on the forum who communicates in verse
Even though his skill at poetry won't fatten up his purse
He letters out some nonsense, puts another line below it
And he thinks that's enough to call himself The Rebel Poet

Name one cliche there that is not used in a clever new way.

Notice I specifically said "not used in a clever new way." If you've been hearing people talk about burning down bridges to the present, that's a new one on me.

Point taken. I probably shouldn't use so many line breaks.

It's still cliché. Not new or clever writing. If you can find an editor/publisher that lets that slide, good for you. You got lucky.

I like it. It has good rhythm. Just remember this a poet is never loved in their home town. Welcome home.

Well, that's not what my poetry teacher's have said, but either way, if an editor wouldn't accept repurposing commonly used phrases for allusion then he can just pass me by. I don't make art for the pleasure of editors.

Perhaps not, but editors are quality control for writers who want their work widely read and published. That's why pro writers hire editors (even when they self-publish). Just FWIW. Lessons I learned the hard way.

@The Rebel Poet-I just thought of an exercise I found useful that I learned from Gail Sher's work. Try re-writing the poem in a variety of other forms (sonnet, prose poem, etc). When you have several interesting poems, take the essence of all of them and distill them into a final poem. ~hugs~

Since poetry is the thing in this forum,...here's something I put together about a Muslim dude who opened up a convenience store down in New Orleans and got robbed one night by this thug named Samuel "Lucky" Parker,....if I can remember it all. His name was Abdulwahab and he employed his cousin Zaidan.

It's been a long time ago.

Life had been hard for Abdulwahab
So he headed to America to land a job
He found Louisiana to be his idea of heaven
So he put some money down on a Seven-Eleven
Wealth became his in the very first year
And all he had to do was peddle condoms and beer
Back behind the chip rack he was sweepin' the floor
When Samuel "Lucky" Parker made his way through the door
Then Lucky pulled a pistol, a nickle .32
Cousin Zaidan liked ta chit!, didn't know what to do!
Stumbling to the register he fell on the floor
Lucky went hinky and his gun began to roar
He put a hole in some cigarettes and vented the till
He even perforated a quart of Heaven Hill
That's when Abdulwahab thought he'd witnessed enough
"I gotta save my family! It's time to get tough!
He pulled out a 9 and shot Lucky in the chin
Squinted up his eye and then he shot him again
Lucky stumbled to a ditch before he fell on his head
A wino on the scene pronounced "Da muhfuggah DEAD!
Soon the cops rolled in and the place began buzzin'
Abdulwahab just shrugged, "He was gonna kill my cousin"
The lesson to the story folks, is "pay as you go"
Just because your name is Lucky doesn't mean that it's so
