Thread: November Car Sales Could Hit Pace Not Seen Since 2008

At any rate, if you ever have the time, you should check out all the goodies on new car lots nowadays. Some killer cars out there at very affordable prices with rockin' MPG ratings. The next few years are going to be great for new car shoppers. Ford's got a new 999cc engine it will bring stateside - word is that it can do 50mpg with 123hp using the EcoBoost tech they have.

I've been going for pleasure recently. Fun to see how the industry is changing.
Most cars the past 15-20 years are tin can death traps. I'd rather have a 60s-early 70s muscle car with steel frame and body and a motor anybody can work on. If I get in a head on collission with a new car I know which one of us is walking away...probably even driving home still.

Unfortunately, when a new design comes out the builder frequently tosses out the baby with the bathwater. Take "wings" for example. Those were a GREAT feature for ventilation, but nobody offers them any more. Why? I suspect because the builder is able to save money by not offering them.

And modern pickups no longer have a real bench seat. I liked the bench seat in my first pickup because my dogs could stretch out comfortably on them. Modern pickup seats don't cut it. They suck.

As much as I would desperatly like to agree with you, I think the highway fatality rates indicate that the crash engineering in new cars is indeed effective.

But I don't care. I have an aversion to safety.

Plus - one time, in Florida, I was driving my '74 VW bus, which went from 0 - 60 in about 5 minutes. There was no jack-rabbit starting to that thing, so it took a little bigger-than-most-people-need traffic gap to cross intersections. One day, the guy behind me thought I was going to go, and he rammed into the back of me, from a dead stop.

His car was barely driveable, while my bumper was only scratched because it was painted. I suggested we not file a report, because he had nothing to gain. He concurred.

And make no mistake - when I'm finished with it, any vintage car I drive will be worth a lot less than it was when I bought it. I am going to drive the hell out of it.

    Thanks for asking.
Posting in an epic thread. This is gettin' good...pix or it didn't happen! j/k :-)
“The people of the various provinces are strictly forbidden to have in their possession any swords, bows, spears, firearms, or other type of arms. The possession of these elements makes difficult the collection of taxes and dues and tends to permit uprising, therefore, the heads of the provinces, official agents, and deputies are ordered to collect all weapons mentioned above and turn them over to the government.”

Yes. They'll make newer models worse by cutting costs, losing features, adding unreliable technology, sourcing crappier parts, and probably all kinds of other ways. It might be 5-6 years before people can figure out that an older model was better, but if you're looking for a car that is 5-8 years old and start reading owner reviews or forums around the internet, there have been plenty of times where I've seen a 2004 model something being judged superior to the same 2006 model, etc. A lot of times, you'll find people who can tell you exactly why.

I'm not inclined to trust those numbers. Let's just say I'd feel much safer in an old muscle car. Almost any car 50ish thru 73 actually.

A 2007 Toyota Tundra should be the only Toyota truck you ever buy. It's better than the previous years and it's been declining ever since. Even 2008 doesn't match it.

My 12 year old pickup truck recently went passed 200,000 miles. I can't afford a new vehicle. I can't afford a used vehicle thank's to obama's cash for clunkers. C4L is asking me for thousands, LOL, apparently because I went all in on Ron Paul's campaign.

You just jarred something loose. Another reason I dislike new cars is that they're so soundproof I can't hear what's going on around me. Sirens, squealing tires, people shouting - blocking those things takes away a whole dimension of safety, albeit replacing it with another.

This is pretty much the opposite of reality.

    Yes, I'm at 214,000.

I can't deny that when I ride in a new car I think, "Oh this is nice!" but seeing the sticker price never fails to knock that silly crap right out of me. I just bought a perfectly good house in a perfectly fine neighborhood for cash, and I'm not about to pay that same amount for a freaking car. I don't care how warm the seats are.

Actually, they were pretty good until the heat ducts in the rocker panels below the doors rusted out, which didn't take long in Ohio. Once they rusted out, there was no heat. What they should've done is run the heat through the center tube, in my opinion.

I always did all my own maintenance on my bug, from changing the clutch to brakes, oil changes (no filter to buy!). Eventually it died of rust, literally. I drove it until the thing was sagging so badly it was overstressing the steering column. Replaced it with a nearly as simple (no injectors, no computer) S10 and I've been driving pickups almost nonstop since then because for me they are very practical for hauling stuff, which I do on a regular basis, from mulch to lumber to firewood to cement to fence supplies to.....

From model to model it changes. In aggregate, cars improve as time progresses. Technology allows for new materials to be used, new designs to be explored and new production methods to be employed. Not every design change is a winning one but in time those most beneficial to the consumer win out (you know, assuming the government doesn't give billions of dollars to certain companies and drastically distort the market).

Yeah, I had a van, then an Escort, then a van again. I can't imagine going back to a car. I like to haul stuff, tow stuff - and I don't really drive all that much, so the mileage isn't a killer for me.

I saw a guy that had a sign that said free mulch, and I drove home, stuck my trailer on it, went back and took it. All I could think was that if I had a pick up I could have saved myself a trip.

If true, Toyota will lose market share and eventually die, or they'll solve the problems. There's no reason to confidently state that a 2007 Tundra will be the best truck they ever produce, though. A person could have said something similar about Jeep when they started to put out low-value vehicles about a decade ago.

Just so we're clear, King Nothing doesn't like me, and wants me to kill myself. And he doesn't even believe his initial post was rude? This is the neg he left for me, in response to a neg I left him:
Eat a bullet, you hormonal $#@!. I was not rude to you, but since you decided to go there, I will too.
He thinks I should kill myself, either because I was rude to him, or because I like old cars. I'll bet he doesn't see anything wrong with that sentiment, either.

Really, what kind of a person says that?

The Inifiniti does seem to suit him, I'll give him that.

I wrote that prices were dropping with the utmost satire possible...They're not going down any time soon....That ol' '69RS/SS will double in value in 10years while the "new" hot rods will loose 1/2 their value....Or more.

    Yeah, I got that.

One of the high school football players is driving an Oldsmobile convertible from the 70's. Cherry red, with a white interior. I don't know much about cars and engines, but while I don't think it classifies as a muscle car, it is a very nice looking machine.

There is no difference. The sentiment is the same. Basically, you started a fight and didn't like where it ended up, so now the other person is at fault. Grow up, you troll.

Humans are flawed individuals. Some of us are more flawed than others. Most of us manage to deal with it without telling other people to kill themselves, because we believe that would be horrible, even when we don't especially like the other person. The point I was making by posting the neg I received had nothing to do with diverting blame. It was intended to speak to something deeper. And it's surreal that I have to spell that out. Although I suspect you still won't get it, because there's something quite "different" about our psyches.

If I ever had any doubt about the intent of the original post, that neg would have removed them.
