They are no longer even trying ...

The Cathedral is no longer even trying to pretend to be anything other than outright Orwellian.

In fact, its mouthpieces in the corporate media are now openly embracing it, without irony or shame.

Notice how the author doesn't make even a token attempt to deny the "dire warnings" she forebodes.

"Concerns about threats to our liberties" are "overblown", she says - and we are not to "waste [time] arguing about it".

Big Brother, you see, is a very "pragmatic" fellow, and he ain't got no time for that.

So you are merely to accept it and submit.

    From Airstrip One (broken link):

    hxxps://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/we-need-big-brother-to-beat-this-virus-5b0njl68r

The Keystone Coppery of recent weeks has had some people muttering darkly that we are heading the way of a police state. Those who style themselves as defenders of ancient British liberties will soon have bigger fish to fry: the digital surveillance tools that government hopes to use to trace the infected. Prepare for dire warnings of state intrusion and an avalanche of Nineteen Eighty-Four quotes on social media warning that Big Brother is upon us. Yet if we are to beat a path out of this pandemic without destroying our economy, overblown concerns about threats to our liberties must be countered by pragmatism. To recover some semblance of normality before a vaccine is found, we must accept the need for the state to access more information about ourselves, our health and our whereabouts — and not waste precious weeks arguing about it.

If only we'd voted harder in the recent election. That would have fixed everything right up.

"Government ... does not exist of necessity, but rather by virtue of a tragic, almost comical combination of klutzy, opportunistic terrorism against sitting ducks whom it pretends to shelter, plus our childish phobia of responsibility, praying to be exempted from the hard reality of life on life's terms." It would have helped, but I think they would have given Biden 100 million votes if he needed it.

Orwell called it not because he was clairvoyant, it is because he was one of them and read the agenda a long time ago. 1984 is their instructional manual.

Greater state surveillance, including ID cards, is required...

What a glorious thing the reopening is! After nearly a year of darkening times, the light has begun to dawn, at least in the US.

Given how incredibly political this pandemic has been from the beginning, many people smell a rat. Is it really the case that the reopening of the American economy, particularly in blue states, is so perfectly timed? Do the science and politics really line up so well?

For those of us inveighing against lockdowns for a full year, it’s truly been a remarkable week. Restrictions are being loosened or are going away. We are finally getting some truth about the carnage. And we are even starting to see some elected officials being honest with us.What a glorious thing the reopening is!
