India said Tuesday it will buy crude oil from other major oil producing countries in view of the United States’ decision this week to end waivers that allowed it to buy Iranian oil without facing U.S. sanctions.External Affairs Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar said the Indian government would continue to work with partner nations, including the United States, to find ways to protect India’s energy and economic security interests.
India bought 23.6 million tons of Iranian oil in the financial year ending in March 2019, said Y.K Baweja, India’s Petroleum Ministry spokesman. He did not give details of India’s plans after the U.S. waiver ends on May 2.
Iran was the third largest oil supplier for India after Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Imports account for more than 80% of India’s oil needs.

Sri Lanka is also a closy ally of Iran, could they face sanctions if they did not cut off ties with Iran?

Sri Lanka and Iran: The 2030 Nuclear Power Plant and Iranian Support

In September, Sri Lanka announced its plan to build its first nuclear power plant within the next 20 years. The Sri Lankan Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy said that they would get safety approval from the International Atomic Energy Authority. He did not mention what role Iran - a staunch, historic ally and the island nation’s main energy supplier - would play in Sri Lanka’s nuclear ambitions. A 2007 US Department of State cable leaked by WikiLeaks disclosed that the US had warned Sri Lanka to be cautious about its tight economic relationship with Iran and to stop its arms purchases from that nation. Are Sri Lankan nuclear energy ambitions a sign of it seeking a measure of independence from Iranian oil, or is it an expression of increased solidarity with an incipient nuclear Iran? In 2007, the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka urged Sri Lanka "to be very scrupulous" in entering into any new trade or investment deals with Iran.

The U.S. sanctions imposed last November on Iran have denied the country some US$10 billion in oil revenues so far, Washington’s Special Envoy for Iran Brian Hook told media.
The comments were made days after Washington announced the end to sanction waivers that it had granted eight large Iranian oil importers, among them India, China, Japan, and South Korea.
“Before sanctions...Iran generated as much as $50 billion annually in oil revenue. We estimate that our sanctions have already denied the regime more than $10 billion since May,” Hook said, referring to May 2018 when President Trump said the sanctions would be returning later in 2018.
According to Reuters, before the sanctions—and after the UN-approved sanctions were removed thanks to the so-called nuclear deal—Iran exported some 4 million bpd of crude, which made it one of the largest producers in OPEC. Now, export data suggests, the country is exporting about 1 million bpd.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE, as well as Iraq, have stated they would be ready to step in and fill the gap left by Iranian crude oil after the end of waivers next week but China, for one, has signaled that it will not respect the end of the waivers. Unlike others, China has been vocal in its opposition to the removal of the waivers while India has stated it would look to other suppliers to compensate for the cutoff of Iranian oil. South Korea and Japan do not expect any major negative impact from the cancelation of the waivers.

No wind-down for China on stopping its Iran oil buys: Trump officials
    https://in.reuters.com/article/us-us...-idINKCN1S2238

After the Trump administration announced on Monday its intent to sink Iran’s oil exports to zero, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards repeated a threat to block the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route linking Middle East oil producers to markets in Asia, Europe and North America.

If China does not cut Iran oil purchases to zero, the Trump administration may have to make a decision on blocking Chinese banks from the U.S. financial system. That could have unintended consequences for finance and business between the world’s two biggest economies, already in negotiations over trade disagreements.

I saw the "Buyers Cartel" news and put it in the OPEC thread, it may not effect Iran because China and India have them at their mercy already thanks to the sanctions.
China may buy Iranian oil separate from the club if India does stop buying Iranian oil.

Boxed in: $1 billion of Iranian crude sits at China's Dalian port
    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-c...-idUSKCN1S60HS

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Some 20 million barrels of Iranian oil sitting on China’s shores in the northeast port of Dalian for the past six months
now appears stranded as the United States hardens its stance on importing crude from Tehran.

The 20 million barrels is equal to about a month’s worth of China’s imports from Iran over the past six months, or about two days of the country’s total imports.

Iran says it will continue to export oil in defiance of U.S. sanctions.

Iran sent the oil to China, its biggest customer, ahead of the reintroduction of U.S. sanctions last November, as it looked for alternative storage for a backlog of crude at home.

The oil is being held in so-called bonded storage tanks at the port, which means it has yet to clear Chinese customs. Despite a six-month waiver to the start of May that allowed China to continue some Iranian imports, shipping data shows little of this oil has been moved.

A senior official with the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC), who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters: “We will continue to sell our oil.”

Eric Margolis : Trump's Crusaders March To War

This is the latest attempt by the United States to crush Iran’s independent-minded government and return it to American tutelage.

The Trump administration has demanded that the principal importers of 1.2 billion barrels of Iranian oil halt purchases almost immediately. This imperial diktat includes China, South Korea, Turkey, India and Japan. The comprehensive embargo is very close to an all-out act of war. In 1941, America’s cut-off of oil to Japan provoked the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The oil embargo not only violates international law, it sets the US on a collision course with some of its most important allies and vassal states. Brazen threats against Iran by Trump’s two main enforcers, National Security advisor John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, have reinforced America’s unfortunate image as an imperial power that threatens war against disobedient satraps and independent-minded nations. …

the Trump Administration, which has now become indistinguishable from Israel’s hard-line far right ruling coalition, has declared virtual war against Iran. To benefit Israel, the White House cancelled a $20 billion order from Iran for Boeing aircraft, embargoed trade with Iran, reneged on the internationally backed nuclear deal with Tehran, cut off all aid to Palestinians, and keeps sustaining the savage Saudi/Emirati war against Yemen that has caused mass starvation and epidemics.

Trump has just unilaterally approved Israel’s illegal seizure of Syria’s Golan Heights, an act worthy of the 1916 Sykes-Picot treaty dividing up the Ottoman Mideast between Britain and France. US threats against Venezuela and Cuba grow louder.

Washington plans to use its naval forces massed around Iran to interdict Tehran’s oil exports. Two US aircraft carriers are now on station within striking range of Iran. …

China faces dire trade punishments for dealing with Iran. Welcome back to 19th century gunboat diplomacy. Even Washington’s European allies may be scourged for buying Iranian oil. …

Iran, which has faced similar threats in the past, is digging in and threatens to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz if its oil exports are interdicted. Twenty percent of the world’s oil passes through the Strait…

Trump & Co.’s warlike actions will cause the price of gasoline to surge, just as America’s busy summer driving season is getting underway. …

Adding to this dangerous mess, Beijing may slow down or even abort its trade talks with Washington, which are of vital importance to the US economy. US markets have already factored in a deal being made.

Trump’s irrational quest to crush Iran could very well turn the rest of the world against Washington. But Trump & Co. don’t seem to care. Someone must tell Trump’s out of control administration to stop trying to overthrow governments it does not like around the globe and promoting itself as the Second Coming of Christ.

Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad.” ...

Most are prolly familiar with the standard US 'spin' on the MB (including spies in the WH.. Hillary's MB lesbian lover etc.)
    that goes something like this...

the Muslim Brotherhood is very active in Egypt as a caritative organisation. After the downfall of Mubarak, they nearly came into power with al-Musri. But they were blocked by the military coup of Tantawi and as-Sisi. The whole so-called "Arab spring" was based on them. Erdogan was visiting all the affected states at this time (Egypt, Tunesia) in the vain hope of a new Ottoman Empire with the help of the Brotherhood. This was supported by Obama. During the uprising against Mubarak Yusuf al-Qaradawi, a leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, came from Qatar to Cairo and preached at Tahrir-Square to the masses. I also think, it is strange, that Iran is supporting this extremist Sunni organisation, but Talos explanation could be right. The Brotherhood is already declared a terrorist organisation in Egypt.
but how bout this from an 'insider'....

    It's complicated.
Iran supports the so called muslim brotherhood in Libya, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and UAE but does not support them in Iraq or Syria.
This so called move by Trump to label the Muslim brotherhood as terrorists is aimed more at Turkey and Qatar than Iran as Turkey and Qatar consider themselves part of the Muslim brotherhood and the Saudis, Egyptians and UAE are anti Muslim brotherhood.
Iran made this statement probably hoping to get Turkish and Qatari help in fighting US sanctions in the near future.

Also it's worth mentioning that 65% Of Egyptians, Saudis and UAE would vote for the Muslim brotherhood if voting was allowed so Trump is basically calling most Egyptians terrorists.
It could backfire big-time as inflation is 20% in Egypt and unemployment is 40% not to mention the Sinai insurgency.
This could be the last straw for many Egyptians and could be Sisi downfall if protests break out. It's a very dangerous move by Trump as the Saudi and Egyptian regimes will now just label anyone they don't like Muslim brotherhood members and either kill them or throw them in jail. also I am not sure the Muslim brotherhood (as an active terror group) really exists.... they have never carried out a terrorist attack and people who are called Muslim brotherhood seem to be just people who want elections in Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia.
Like I said... lots of intrigues.

Playing Chicken In The Straits Of Hormuz - Red Lines And War Talk

May 2 - After designating Iran's Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization, will the US make a physical attempt to shut down any oil export by citing the oil business's relationship with the Iranian Guard? Will Iran make good on its threat to shut down the Hormuz Straits, which would take out 20 percent of the oil from the world market? Clearly Trump's sights are set on Iran. How far will he go? The United States is exploring options to deepen its economic measures against Iran beyond the current oil sanctions in an effort to further curb Tehran's access to cash, The Wall Street Journal reported May 2. As part of the plan, the United States will reportedly target Iranian financial networks, gold and precious metals, as well as foreign companies that assist Tehran in avoiding sanctions, among others.

Iran will reduce some "voluntary" commitments within its nuclear deal with world powers as a response to members' inability to resist U.S. pressure, but will not withdraw from it, state media on Wednesday quoted Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif as saying.Iran's state media said earlier Tehran would write to the countries still signed up to the deal - U.S. allies Britain, France and Germany as well as Russia and China - on Wednesday to give them details about plans to "diminish its commitments" under the deal.

well we have certainly lost the element of Surprise..

I think maybe,, they might be ready for an attack.

    this is so damn stupid.
Liberty is lost through complacency and a subservient mindset. When we accept or even welcome automobile checkpoints, random searches, mandatory identification cards, and paramilitary police in our streets, we have lost a vital part of our American heritage. America was born of protest, revolution, and mistrust of government. Subservient societies neither maintain nor deserve freedom for long.

US officials: Iran moving ballistic missiles by boat

Intelligence showing that Iran is likely moving short-range ballistic missiles aboard boats in the Persian Gulf was one of the critical reasons the US decided to move an aircraft carrier strike group and B-52 bombers into the region, several US officials with direct knowledge of the situation told CNN on Tuesday.

The concerns over the movement of the missiles was one of multiple threads of intelligence from various sources that led the US to believe Iran had a capability and intention to launch strikes against US targets, the report said.

US Central Command spokesperson Capt. Bill Urban said they had seen "indications that Iranian and Iranian proxy forces were making preparations to possibly attack US forces in the region."

It's not clear if the Iran could launch the missiles from the boats or if they are transporting them to be used by Iranian forces on land.

The Pentagon is considering sending additional firepower to the region including anti-missile defense systems, the officials said.

The United States said on Tuesday that European powers are unlikely to live up to a pledge to prevent their conduit for trade with Iran being used to launder money or finance terrorism, raising the prospect of further U.S. sanctions.France, Britain and Germany have set up the special purpose vehicle called Instex, a conduit for barter-based trade with Iran, in an effort to protect at least some of Iran's economy from sweeping U.S. sanctions and keep alive a big-power nuclear deal that Washington is about to quit.
The three European Union members have been trying to get Iran to keep its commitments under the deal to cut back its nuclear program - which Washington distrusts - by helping it to circumvent the trade sanctions that Washington has reimposed.
They want Instex to meet norms for legitimate financing set by the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force, even though Iran as a country is not yet fully compliant with them.
But U.S. Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Sigal Mandelker said this would be hard for the Iranian side of Instex, with much of Iran's economy both opaque and connected to institutions under U.S. sanctions such as the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
"I question how that's even remotely possible ... with a country like Iran where the IRGC is so endemic within the economy but also hidden in many different respects," said Mandelker, one of the chief architects and enforcers of U.S. sanctions against Iran.

A failure by Iran to comply fully with FATF standards by June will bring enhanced FATF scrutiny of banks there, and possibly punitive measures, which are now suspended.
One European official said that the "absence of transparency and due diligence in Iran's financial system is clearly a problem in cooperation with the EU".
"With regard to Instex, we didn't say it was a prerequisite for it to conform (with FATF standards), but what is clear is that anything the Iranians would do to facilitate transparency in the economy would help Instex," he said. He added, however, that so far there had been little movement by Iran.

Mandelker repeatedly declined to specify what future action Washington might take, but said it would enforce sanctions strictly.
The U.S. Treasury has said Iran's central bank has transferred funds to Lebanon's Hezbollah, an armed Shi'ite political grouping that Washington considers a terrorist group.
"How can you engage in a trade vehicle with an entity that itself is supporting the movement of money for terrorist organizations?" Mandelker said.
"I think it's extremely complicated for the Europeans to think that they're going to be able to do that ... Where we see sanctionable activity, we're going to take action to confront it."
