Feds with my picture asking about me...

So, I got a call from my 19 year old daughter today while she was at work telling me that her boyfriend's dad called her earlier to say that 2 people claiming to be with the Federal Government had stopped by his house and was asking about my wife, me, and daughter.

We don't know them and live in different states, my daughter moved back down there to go to school, but we haven't lived in that state for over 2 years, and I never spoken directly to this boyfriend's parents.

But yeah, they asked him to contact her, showed pictures of us, and asked about some property we owned that ended up going into foreclosure a couple years back.

Any ideas who our what "feds" would be doing looking for us about a foreclosed property in a state I haven't been in for a couple years?

Without out knowing which Fed agency it's tough to tell. Could be IRS, EPA, FBI...who knows? If they were Fed they would have shown credentials.

Maybe they meant to find you like 5 years ago, to politely tell you your property belonged to them now, but they don't know the bank has it and they're going to insist you still own it, even though it could be a water park by now for all you know.

Yep. Gotta go with this or some variation. Anybody like that looking for you like that is only bad news for you. Anybody like that asking you to contact them is bad news, but I guess you already know this. Similar thing happened to me. They told a person they met with for me to contact them. Yeah right, ass $#@!. I never did contact them and nothing ever came of it.

A funnier story is when creditors called my home number looking for my brother. Tried to be slick. I called them back from a pay phone while traveling for work in Virginia. The head guy was really enthusiastic when I called, saying, "Hey, do you know where he is?" Yeah right, dunce cap. Needless to say, I went on a calling spree, harassing that company from every pay phone I could find for the next month. Yes, I am very petty that way.

If they do show up here, they have gates, signs, and dogs to worry with before they get to my house, and I don't talk to no one with badge as a matter of principle.

They may know where you are but are trying to dig up dirt on you before contacting you.

That sounds like IRS but there should only be one of them , unless they have changed I thought they worked alone .

I dunno. It's some hinky $#@!. How would they know that your daughter is dating this dude, and know to go to his parents house? FedBook? I'd get the name off the card and the agency and do some research. IF you contact them do so with a witness present on a speakerphone. Not sure about the recording laws in your state but if you can do that then do. Shut down any communication that goes beyond YOUR questioning them. Your call should be for one purpose only, to find out why they are seeking you. No more. At this point you need a lot more information. I'd even consider calling the boyfriends parents and finding out the nature of the discussion.

I saw this video about five years ago, and noted some interesting parts. I would not have answered the door, but this woman wanted to be confrontational and put them on the internet. Basically, it is two FBI agents showing up at her door to question her about her involvement in protests against Israel. They claim they are not asking about protests, but any potential violence from it (I guess). She ends up video taping them and putting questions back on them.

I noticed how seemingly innocuous the FBI agents look. They are not the stereotypical two stern guys in black suits and sunglasses. It's a man, accompanied by a woman for soft sell. They wear casual and relaxed clothing. They drive a fluffy white vehicle. The guy tries to play the aw shucks angle. He pretends like he is confused, but he is not confused at all. The agents probably did however, get something they did not expect.

Not saying it's the FBI or your involved in criminal activity, but I will say the technique below applies to innocent activity and other agencies relying on their informants snitches.
