With all due respect and gratitude to former U.S. Congressman Ernie Konnyu for his service in the U.S. Air Force, I question his insistence that banning assault rifles is “dead wrong.” (“Those calling for ban on assault rifles dead wrong,” Letters, March 28).
He claims someone invading a private home can only be stopped by multiple bullets to the belly.
Good grief, Mr. Konnyu, what if the invader is just a Halloween trick-or-treater soaping a window?
My husband, who has been a hunter all his life, was accidentally shot by a fellow hunter about 30 years ago. Fortunately, neither of them owned assault rifles or else my husband would not be alive today.

Even if Dannno's theories are correct Trump is risking our gun rights in a way that is unnecessary and dangerous, there are some things you don't ever sacrifice and guns and due process are two of them.

Worrying about risk is kind of a worrywart thing to do.

At this point all we have seen is more anti-gun legislation passing at the state level and a bump stock ban going through the BATFE that may or may not be overturned.
I mentioned Q not because I am invested in them but because they are about the only way that this sellout on the 2ndA might turn out to be part of a successful long term strategy.
The risks are playing out before our eyes and even if Q is true there is a large chance they will fail.
You simply don't bet the 2ndA like this, it is too important.

It won't pass muster with the courts. It will be struck down. Thus, it won't matter. No ill effects. No freedoms abridged. Just a big trolling. Though I don't see what Trump gets out of it, because none of the r-selected European-style Socialists are going to decide to like him, not even a tiny bit more, nor to cut him any slack, not even a tiny bit. They emotionally hate him as a person. But, I guess it could take the wind out of their sails and further undermine them as unreasonable, and set himself as the reasonable compromiser. That and, to the extent / in the sense(s) that it is true, I will admit to being a derelict and ineffective employer. Of course, having 200 million or 300 million (or 7 billion?) employers, all in charge of just one employee, does structurally make for a unique challenge.
