    Grave risks using assault
    weapons to protect homes

With all due respect and gratitude to former U.S. Congressman Ernie Konnyu for his service in the U.S. Air Force, I question his insistence that banning assault rifles is “dead wrong.” (“Those calling for ban on assault rifles dead wrong,” Letters, March 28).
He claims someone invading a private home can only be stopped by multiple bullets to the belly.
Good grief, Mr. Konnyu, what if the invader is just a Halloween trick-or-treater soaping a window?
My husband, who has been a hunter all his life, was accidentally shot by a fellow hunter about 30 years ago. Fortunately, neither of them owned assault rifles or else my husband would not be alive today.

Mr. Konnyu wants us to be reassured that the NRA has neither endorsed him nor donated to his years in public office. In return, we would like to commend him for his 20 some years as a medic and accountant in the military.

    Hard to quantify "risk."

    Risk is not a result.

    Risk is pretty subjective.

Worrying about risk is kind of a worrywart thing to do.

    You wrote:

Even if Q turns out to be true and Trump ends up MakingAGA and all of this goes away it still won't have made it the right way to do it.
I just disagree and think that obviously that success -- gun rights preserved and enhanced, greatness springing up all over -- would be, well, a success. And that's, like, the goal and junk.

And forget about this Q thing -- there's something you definitely cannot control. If somehow there really is a coup and two-thirds of the government is arrested by... the government.... well then that's just great! Party time. In the meantime......... I wouldn't get psychologically tied to the idea, not too excited for this crazy hope. That goes for you too, dannno. Whatever happens (or doesn't) with secret CIA vs. FBI power struggles is out of our control.

Anyway, things turn out great and country gets better = the right things were done.

At this point all we have seen is more anti-gun legislation passing at the state level and a bump stock ban going through the BATFE that may or may not be overturned.
I mentioned Q not because I am invested in them but because they are about the only way that this sellout on the 2ndA might turn out to be part of a successful long term strategy.
The risks are playing out before our eyes and even if Q is true there is a large chance they will fail.
You simply don't bet the 2ndA like this, it is too important.

    Nah, looming far more probable:

It won't pass muster with the courts. It will be struck down. Thus, it won't matter. No ill effects. No freedoms abridged. Just a big trolling. Though I don't see what Trump gets out of it, because none of the r-selected European-style Socialists are going to decide to like him, not even a tiny bit more, nor to cut him any slack, not even a tiny bit. They emotionally hate him as a person. But, I guess it could take the wind out of their sails and further undermine them as unreasonable, and set himself as the reasonable compromiser. Who am I to question someone clearly so skilled at this game?

Could it be that there's a premise somewhere in there that's off?

No, I totally get it! You got me. But don't worry: I found the flawed transistor!

That and, to the extent / in the sense(s) that it is true, I will admit to being a derelict and ineffective employer. Of course, having 200 million or 300 million (or 7 billion?) employers, all in charge of just one employee, does structurally make for a unique challenge. The noble and holy hierarchy of our wonderful Democracy of Vibrancy -- such a beautiful thing.

It should bring a tear to all of our eyes.

Where did the "only" part come from? People who run companies often defer to lower level employees who have greater technical expertise in their field.

It came from the fact that professionals are only professionals if and when someone pays them to do what they do.

“Gun Owners of America will seek out other pro-gun organizations to join us challenging this illegal executive action in court,” said Gun Owners of America Executive Director Erich Pratt in a news release Friday. “And we predict that an honest, constitutional and legal analysis by the courts will result in this regulation being struck down.”

So you think that Trump wouldn't be getting paid if he wasn't the President? I contend he would be getting paid A LOT more. In fact, I believe he is donating his salary back to the government.

Where did that come from? What led you to believe I was talking about Trump? What led you to believe any part of the conversation I was responding to was about Trump?

Is it just because you lust after Trump every waking hour and during your REM sleep too? Is that why you try to turn every conversation into a Trumpcuck worship service?
