They don't need to be a majority. Their power has two halves. One is that they're extremely powerful in the culture-shaping institutions collectively referred to as The Cathedral. All mainstream culture, all multinationals and banks and entertainment conglomerates bow to their narratives because of the positions of power.
The second half is that their relatively small numbers allows "sensible" leftists to call them "just a small sliver" of the left. The left loves to deny their own power and gaslight people, claiming to be disenfranchised rebels when they are the establishment.

No. Fringe elements, by definition, are not a majority.
Most people in this world are normal.
It's a facade I call the "Wizard of Oz Syndrome." People thought most listeners objected to the Christmas tune "Baby, It's Cold Outside" just because someone told them--without any evidence--that most people objected.
It's turned out that most people did not object and only 8% objected--the fringe element.
Most things today are like this.
