Thread: How video games keep revolution from occuring

Exclamation How video games keep revolution from occuring

Too long to copypasta, but a piece from Reason mag about young men who replace work with video games, also indicates to me why revolution will never happen, because the young men that drive revolutions when out of work are placid and docile in their parent's basement, glued to video games.

Young Men Are Playing Video Games Instead of Getting Jobs. That's OK. (For Now.)

    http://reason.com/archives/2017/06/1...aying-video-ga

Video games, you might say, offer a sort of universal basic income for the soul.
Another mark of a tyrant is that he likes foreigners better than citizens, and lives with them and invites them to his table; for the one are enemies, but the Others enter into no rivalry with him. - Aristotle's Politics Book 5 Part 11

When you raise kids that can't go outside unattended until they're in high school, you end up with adults that stay inside.
There are no crimes against people.
There are only crimes against the state.
And the state will never, ever choose to hold accountable its agents, because a thing can not commit a crime against itself.

Don't forget the free porn. Video game habit can be pricey, its not exactly something you can indulge in if you don't have money. The free to play games aren't actually that free if you actually play to win. It is free to play but you have to pay to win and at the end, you end up spending more than the cost of a real game.

Avid video game player here but the revolution for me would only start when someone tries to give me a real gun and force me to kill someone who did nothing to me. That person would most likely get the first bullet. Not going to be submissive like the WWI and WWII folks who when they were instructed went willingly to he killing field without complaining to kill their brothers and sisters overseas.

This is where I can be seen practicing the revolution that is never going to happen. If anyone still plays the 5 yr old game wants to play together, send me a PM, I have over 400 hrs of game time and very good at what I do .

Stay away from porn free or not, that is the real revolution boner killer.

Welcome to Brave New 1984, a strange hybrid where people take constant doses of SOMA while tolerating the boot heel stepping on the face of mankind, forever.

SOMA - The highly addictive drug that keeps people blissfully unaware and uninterested in anything but passive obedience to the system. Video Games, Movies, TV, Facebook, your cell phone, everything is used as a distraction to keep people uninvolved in the actions of their govt.
    1776 > 1984

The FAILURE of the United States Government to operate and maintain an
Honest Money System , which frees the ordinary man from the clutches of the money manipulators, is the single largest contributing factor to the World's current Economic Crisis.

Video games unlike gardening, sports, stamp collecting takes you out of the real world and into a fantasy setting, is a huge time sink and at the end of the day, you really gain nothing tangible out of it. I can be getting my hands dirty gardening and still be worrying about some state ordinance about gardening laws etc.

I think all hobbies contribute a little but video games and pornography especially take the cake

I think I gained all of my technical skills needed in order to get my first few jobs because of my computer gaming hobbies. It definitely helped more then reading technical books.

Yeah back when pressing the Turbo button on your PC made your game go faster- PC gaming isn't even what it was 10 years ago back when I used to do it a lot, it was never on ESPN.

Bread and circuses have come a long way. Easy bread from parents and/or EBT. With a old fashioned circus, there was too much actual human contact. Dangerous for the establishment. Too easy to redirect mobs into destruction. Better to keep individuals separated, isolated and monitored.

Makes me think Ron and Dan should do their news show over a match of team fortress 2 or whatever the hottest new multiplayer game is. IMO unless these people are libertarians I'd rather have them playing video games over carrying a pitchfork for the latest populist candidate that presents a 'solution' for their woes.

This is $#@!. People are holed up playing video games because there's no $#@!ing jobs for them to do.

The real reason people are docile and just take it up the bureaucratic ass is because over 50% of the population are on "depression" and "anxiety" medication that make them not care about anything, even human lives, which is why many go crazy and kill others/themselves.
A savage barbaric tribal society where thugs parade the streets and illegally assault and murder innocent civilians, yeah that is the alternative to having police. Oh wait, that is the police

    This is also true.

Yeah but they announced a new Metroid for the Nintendo Switch today... what if the real reason we are in this situation has nothing to do with the generations who play video games and everything to do with the generations that came before?

I do think playing video games were helpful for me when I later went to Truck Driving school and got my Class A CDL. It takes timing to double clutch and it's good plan for what's going around you or further down the highway.

As for revolt, who is the enemy? Government? Or the Lobbiests that bought and bribed the government? Should people storm their corporate offices or grab the CEOs? Or use a crowd funding effort to raise enough money to out spend them?

After a Revolt, what is the plan for Reform?

Video games are just new adornments for the temples of the god of self.
Why don't the kids know about the god of self? Bad parenting/no parenting.

I dunno about just playing quake, but I was always building computers to play Quake 2, Doom and Duke 3d and Starcraft and stuff.. Between making my own Ethernet cables and computers and connecting small networks to play pc games we called it "lanning" with my friends I was pretty much A+ certified and network + certified as well, not only that I could type over 100 words per minute. I didn't play any less video games then the average burnout, its just like there might be more to it then video games.

A lot more than you will learn playing DOS games.

Essentially they made the game open source so people could make their own games using the quake engine. This where Team Fortress was invented.

Installing and running Mods in quake was more difficult than playing a DOS game.
