We celebrated Epiphany today. We finish off the day with a chili cook off and bonfire with everyone’s dried out Christmas trees. My chili won its category. This is of note because I have never cooked an award-winning anything in my life.

I also celebrated Epiphany (aka Theophany) today as my church is on the revised Gregorian calendar. We had the blesssing of the waters service. According to Christian tradition, when Christ was baptized, it was nature which was baptized through the waters in His submersion.. An ancient hymn speaks about an Old Testament prophecy of the waters of the Jordan reversing its flow. This reportedly happens also today on the Epiphany when the cross is tossed in the Jordan river before the praying congregation.
Those using the earlier Julian calendar (which is actually the majority Orthodox in the world) celebrate Christmas tomorrow (as tomorrow is Dec 25th on their calendar.
