Melania has a business. She's used to having a productive staff. I'm not surprised her team is so effective.

I think Trump will be asking these questions. Why are we here? Why have we been doing this? What's the objective? I think he will change a lot of these things. He didn't just hand everything over to the military people. He got where he is by getting things done. He will bring a lot of heat down.

Again, not a huge Trump fan, but a keen observer of people and the way they roll. Trump gets things done by talking. He uses resources with a bottom line in mind. He looks for the shortest way to a good outcome. He throws out ideas to get people to come and talk, and he will talk to people who come to talk.

I think the library in CA was named for her, but subsidized with tax dollars from the general fund.

To be fair, DGP Obama has also profiteered from his "community service" in washington.

On a side note, there is still no report of him returning money his mega bundler and sexual predator Harvey Weinstein, who was called 'wonderful' by Michelle, raised for him over the years.

Hopefully some media owners employees are keeping a watch on Trump, Kushner clans net worth change during their community service stints. Although there was a report last week saying Trump's net worth had decreased during his term so far.

Melania stayed in New York City for 5 months at 150K a day for extra security. Also has Melania actually started doing any projects?

Have not seen much in news about her projects. To give credit where due, MO used to be involved in all sorts of inspirational projects and campaigns for the good of humanity.

But to be fair, MO had lot of help help from hollywood, media, Ellen, Harvey Weinstein etc whereas Melania seems to get cold shoulder usuallly from hollywood/media experts. So it is possible her projects are not getting same help and publicity.

According to the New York City Police Department, it has cost the taxpayers an average of $127,000 to $145,000 per day to keep Melania and Barron Trump in New York. By the time the Trumps vacate Trump Tower in June, the tallied amount is projected to hit $8.6 million.
That alone is about the cost of Michele Obama's entire staff for eight years.

Of course. They have an 11yo son who was in the middle of the school year. I didn't realize the First Lady was hired for anything, really, so if she doesn't want to do projects, I guess that's just fine.

Yeah, the Obamas are so frugal.

I'm not sure why some paid liberals on this board are so concerned with spending. It never seemed like an issue before.

Trump on pace to surpass 8 years of Obama's travel spending in 1 year

Donald Trump's travel to his private club in Florida has cost over an estimated $20 million in his first 80 days as president, putting the president on pace in his first year of office to surpass former President Barack Obama's spending on travel for his entire eight years.

The outsized spending on travel stands in stark relief to Trump's calls for belt tightening across the federal government and the fact that he regularly criticized Obama for costing the American taxpayer money every time he took a trip.

Given variations in each trip, estimating the security costs around a presidential trip is difficult. But a 2016 Government Accountability Office report about a four-day trip Obama took to Florida in 2013 -- one similar to Trump's trips -- found the total cost to the Secret Service and Coast Guard was $3.6 million.

To date, Trump has spent six weekends -- and a total of 21 days -- at Mar-A-Lago, his private Palm Beach club. The total estimated costs for those trips are around $21.6 million.

Obama, by contrast, spent just under $97 million on travel in his eight years as president, according to documents reviewed by Judicial Watch, a conservative government watchdog. These trips included personal trips - including ski trips to Aspen and the Obama's annual family vacation in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts -- and work trips, like a visit to Everglades National Park on Earth Day in 2015.

Trump's frequent weekend travel makes it all but certain the 45th President will surpass Obama's spending in his first term, likely within months.
Trump and his family have proven to be an expensive first family to protect.

Not only does Trump travel frequently, but New York City officials have said it costs between $127,000 to $146,000 a day to protect first lady Melania Trump when she is in New York and the president is not there.

Trump has yet to visit New York as president.

The extensive needs of the Trump family have put strains staffing on the Secret Service, too.

Dozens of agents from field offices across the country, including New York, have been temporarily pulled off their normal criminal investigation duties to work two-week rotations protecting members of the large Trump family, Secret Service officials told CNN.

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said earlier this month that the Department of Homeland Security will ask for additional funding to protect Trump.

"They need a lot more agents, not just because of the Trump era, although that is additional because he has a lot of children and grandchildren," Kelly told senators on the Homeland Security Committee. "We need more agents and we need more uniformed personnel."

Kelly also acknowledged the strain the Secret Service is under.

"We need a larger Secret Service," Kelly said, "because we need to get some of these people a little bit of time at home with their families."
