Washington state: Carbon fee on fall ballot

Voters in Washington state will be asked this fall to do what state and federal leaders have been reluctant to: charge a direct fee on carbon pollution to fight climate change. If the ballot measure passes, it will be the first direct fee or tax charged on carbon emissions in the U.S.
Experts say it will prove states can take action even if the Trump administration doesn't, and nudge other states to follow.
Initiative 1631 would charge industrial emitters that use or sell fossil fuels in the state for every metric ton of carbon emissions. The fee starts in 2020 at $15 per metric ton and increases $2 a year. It stops in 2035 if the state meets its goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
About 100 emitters such as oil refineries, natural gas power plants and fuel distributors would pay the fee, raising roughly $1 billion in the first year.

In can see this passing if the pols can explain to the people that one, the fat rich people will be the ones paying for it and two, the improvement in the weather is going to save them money on electrical bills.

If they can do this, the bill will pass so easily i.e. make em believe they are improving their lives while saving em money.

Well the comments seem to be mostly against it, with overwhelming up-votes in agreement with the dissent. —Which means only one thing:

Yahoo will soon get rid of its comment section.

I've seen an increase in conservative comments on many Yahoo articles so you may be right.

The most effective politicians are the ones who lie the best. You lie to sell xxx program and after the program has been implemented, lie again to excuse the gap between what was promised and what was delivered.

The president we have now is a piss poor liar but his campaign lies helped him win the presidency. Dont hate the player, hate the game.

Both cause a shift to the totalitarian left, in any case it is the principle of immigration control that is important, it's good you are beginning to understand.

Lol, spinsmyth thinks he's schooling me. I'm not against immigration control, I am against the Great Socialist Wall of America. I'm also pretty damn sure the Orange Emperor isn't going to do anything truly substantive about all the people here illegally other than blowing more hot air.
